Institute of Medical Science Varanasi, popularly known as IMS BHU, was established in 1960. It is recognised and approved by the Medical Council of India. In 2025, Collegedunia ranked IMS BHU 28th in the Medical category, while according to the IIRF Rankings 2025, it ranked 9th in the Medical category. The Institute of Medical Science is one of the six institutes of Banaras Hindu University.

The institute offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and doctoral programs, which lead to two primary degrees: MBBS and MD. The institute offers a five-year MBBS program as its flagship course. BDS and BAMS Admission
