he Muslims of Vaniyambadi established the Vaniyambadi Muslim Educational Society in 1901 with a view to translate the message of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to provide secular education to the people of Arcot region in general and Muslims in particular. The Society was registered in 1905 under Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 and started Islamiah Elementary School in 1903.The founding fathers of the Society were Janab T.Hajee Badruddin Sahib, Janab Malang Hayath Batcha Sahib, Janab T. Ameenuddin Sahib and Janab Malang Ahmed Batcha Sahib. The full-fledged Islamiah High School came into existence in 1912. In 1916, the Society resolved to establish Islamiah College and the foundation stone of the College was laid by His Excellency Lord Pentland, the then Governer of Madras Presidency. With princely donations from the Muslim philanthropists, the College was started in 1919 and got recognition from July 1921. The building in which the College is housed at present was opened by Nawab C.Abdul Hakeem Sahib who gave a munificent donation of Rs. 50,000 to the Society.

In 1946, the College was upgraded as a Degree College offering two year degree courses in B.A Economics and B.Com. In 1954, B.A Group1(b) Mathematics was started. In 1956, the College got affiliation for the Pre-university and the three year degree courses, B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com., were started in 1957. The University accorded permission to start B.Sc. Zoology and B.A. History in 1967. M.A. History was started in 1974, M.Com. in 1975, and M.Sc. Mathematics in 1976.

The Admission committee comprises senior Heads of departments with SC/ST nominee. All the applications are scrutinized by the Committee. Admission is done by the Principal, based on the recommendation of the admission committee following the rules of reservation. Admission is made purely on the basis of merit. The 50% of the seats are given to the minorities and remaining 50% of the seats are allocated as per the reservation rules of state government.

Eligibility Criteria:
UG - A pass (35%) in Higher Secondary
PG - A pass (40%) in the required UG degree
M.Phil - A pass (55%) in the required PG degree {( For SC/ST & Differently-Abled) A pass (50%) in the required PG degree}
Ph.D - A pass (55%) in the required PG / M.Phil degree

Employment of students is given highest priority in our institution. The Career Guidance and Placement Cell organises regular training programmes to improve the employable skills of the students. Seminars/Training are conducted regarding personality development and entrepreneurial skills. The career guidance and Placement Cell regularly display the advertisements regarding recruitment opportunities. Campus interviews are arranged by Placement Cell in order to facilitate placements for students. Various Departments have interface meetings with different R & D labs of national institutes which enable the students to do their project work and help them in further employment.


Career Guidance and Placement Cell provides information about various employment avenues available to the students. Students pursuing higher studies are given proper guidance about the courses available. Special importance is given to the placement of graduates in suitable jobs. Corporate bodies like TVS, HCL, Sutherland, Eureka Forbes, Poly-hose Pvt. Ltd, Biocon, Tech Mahindra, Malladi Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd, IIT Khargpur E-Cell, etc. have recruited our graduates. However, the centre lays stress on self-employment of the graduates. The College has signed MoU with Angel Auditor College, Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI), Foot Wear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) and Bio-discovery Group of India, VANITEC etc.,and efforts are in progress for MoU with many corporate and training institutions.

A good number of students are recruited in the Police Department and Army for the past five years, thanks to the initiative of the Placement Cell.

Processing of fresh and renewal of applications for scholarship of various categories such as Backward Class Scholarship and SC/ST Scholarship from Government of Tamil Nadu, Post Matric Scholarship and Minority Scholarship from Government of India, private scholarship from local NGOs etc. are principal functions of this section. These applications are processed online and the payment of scholarship is done directly to the student's bank account through e-banking.
