Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering, Shimoga is a prestigious technical institute, established in 1980 by the National Education Society (NES).  JNNCE is a flagship Institute of the NES, founded by freedom fighters and philanthropists like Sri. H. S. Rudrappa, Sri. S.V.Krishna Murthy Rao, Sri. S.R.Nagappa Setty and Sri. D.S.Dinakar and groomed by Sri Girimaji N Rajagopal, Sri D.R.Ratnakar among others.  Over the past 70 years it has spread its wings in several disciplines of education through establishment of 35 educational institutions in the Malnad region of Karnataka state in a wide range of disciplines such as Engineering, Science, Pharmacy, Commerce, Humanities, Education, Law, Business Administration, Physical Education, Computer Application and Applied Sciences.

 
JNNCE has a rich history marked by events that have made it synonymous with quality education.  It has thus emerged as one of the institutions espoused to the cause of professional Education, Training and Research. Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering is set in a sprawling lush green environment campus of about 39.4 acres.  It is located in AD Block Road, Navule, Shivamogga, Karnataka.

 
JNNCE is Recognised by Govt of Karnataka and Affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgavi.  It is Certified by UGC 2f and 12B and Approved by AICTE, New Delhi.  This esteemed college is Accredited by NAAC – B as well as by Institution of Engineers (India), and re-accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).  JNNCE continues to be ranked among the top BTech colleges in India by various ranking bodies, including NIRF, Outlook [80th (India); 17th (Karnataka)], India Today [48th (India); 10th (Karnataka)], The Week [50st (India) 33th (South India);13th (Karnataka)], TOI [118th (India) ; 11th (Karnataka)], Career 360: AAA and Chronicle [8th (India): A+ Grade ; 5th (Admission & selection process; 7th in Academic Excellence].

 
The courses offered by JNNCE are a wide range of UG, PG and Doctoral programs in the fields of Engineering, Computer and Management.  It offers Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in eight specializations and PG courses like MBA, MCA, and MTech program in 2 disciplines.  Admissions are based on merit in COMEDK UGET or KCET entrance exams, along with consideration of 10+2 exam performance.  JNNCE is also a University recognized Research Centre in various departments leading to the award of M.Sc. (Engg.) and Ph.D. degrees.  For admission, the candidates shall possess a Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / Science or equivalent from the VTU or any other University recognised by it and with a marks/minimum CGPA as per VTU.

 
JNNCE has world-class infrastructural facility that more than adequately meets the requirements of around 3800 students and 400 staff members.  Excellent infrastructure with spacious Classrooms, Library & Information Centre, Well Equipped Lab/Workshops, Hi-Tech Auditorium, Sports facilities, Gym, Student Amenity Centre, Cafeteria, separate Boys & Girls Hostels, Bank, Transportation, Co-operative society, Bank/ATM, Post-office, Guest-house and Medical Centre, Canteen, etc. are provided.

 
JNNCE’s dedicated team of Faculty is highly qualified and experienced, comprising of nearly 46 Ph.D holders, and 138 with PG qualification amongst whom 56 are pursuing Ph.D.  They have presented and published over 500 papers in national and international seminars, conferences, and journals.  There are 23 Professors, 22 Associate Professors, 131 Assistant professors. The technical and supporting staff of the College, work with a lot of enthusiasm and commitment.

 
Training & Placement Cell at JNNCE assists students to build their career in companies in India and abroad.  The well-structured infrastructure supports selection process like Written Tests, Group Discussions, Pre-placement talks and Interviews according to the needs of the companies.  JNNCE has an excellent placement record WITH Placement Partners like Tech Mahindra, IBM, DELL, NOKIA, Mindtree, Wipro, Godrej, TCS, etc. being regulars to the college for Recruitment Drives.

 
Student Support activities like Scholarships, Anti-Ragging, NSS, Red Cross, Green Tech Centre, National Program on Technology enhanced Learning (NPTEL), Cultural Crew, Department Forums, Student Clubs, etc. are also available at JNNCE.

 
Other activities encouraged by the college are initiatives like Innovation Centre, New Age Incubation Centre (NAIN), Student Counseling Centre, Consumer Protection & Welfare cell, Technical Fest-“Techzone”, the Two-day annual Sports & Cultural Fest “JANVEY”, Student Mentor Scheme, Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE), EDUSAT programs, nodal centre for the project E-Yantra, a Robot based project of IIT Bombay, INSPIRE-Internship Camp funded by DST, GOI, etc.

 
JNNCE has an Alumni Forum which meets regularly and involves itself in the development of the institution by undertaking various activities.  More than 17,000 students who have passed out of this institution have been making significant contributions in Industries, R&D organizations, Academic Institutions and Govt. Organizations in India and abroad and serving their alma-mater.

Placements are usually in 7th semester. As usual,

TCS is the Mass recruiter. It recruits around 90% of the batch. You also have Dell R&D, Evive healthcare etc. But they take only few students(Around 4-5). If you are not placed, you need to give some 1 Lakhs(Approximate) and join Q-spider

Internships Opportunities:

There is no internship provided. you may need to search it outside your college. Attend hackathons and other competitions. Only final placement is provided. if you have talent, consult the companies within shimoga to get local internships

The institution supports four mainstream of scholarships:
Vidyasiri (e-pass - Fee Concession) For BCM /OBC students- Income limit below 1 lac (other than Cat-1) , Cat-1 below Rs. 2.5 lacs
SC / ST Lower Income: Income Limit below Rs. 2.5 lacs (CET/ Comed-K / Management students can apply)
SC/ST Higher Income: Income limit Rs.2.5lacs to Rs.10 lacs (CET/ Comed-K can apply).
