K A P Viswanathan Government Medical College was established in the year 1998. It is one of the prestigious medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. The college is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. It follows the curriculum and regulations set by the university.

It has the necessary approvals from the government and regulatory bodies to offer medical education. K A P Viswanathan Government Medical College offers undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD/MS) courses in various specialties.

The college campus is well-equipped with modern infrastructure and facilities to facilitate medical education and research. Admission Procedure:

It is a compulsion for a medical aspirant to appear in National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after graduating 12th grade. The selections in all the government, central, private and deemed colleges are based on the NEET scores. The seats for all medical Institutions/Colleges/universities are offered via counselling based on the fulfilment of eligibility Score/Rank, preferences of colleges and seats available. There will be multiple rounds of counselling viz. round-1, Round-2, Mop Up round and Stray Rounds. Conduct of every subsequent round depends on the availability of seats. If vacant seats remain at the end of one round, the next round will be conducted.

In K A P Viswanathan Government Medical College, Trichy, 15% seats will be filled through All India Quota whereas rest 85% seats will be filled through Tamil Nadu State NEET UG counselling 2023.

Facilities and Infrastructure

The university has extra than 30 departments. There are three men's hostels and two women's hostels on campus. It has a stadium that seats 750. There are four lecture halls with over 150 seats. The Central Library is home to over 7,000 books and national and international journals. It has study halls, one for masters and the alternative for professors. There are two indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including a gymnasium, a basketball court, a feather ball stadium, badminton and two volleyball courts. It additionally has the capacity to play spherical ball, golfing ball, desk tennis, football, and football.

Library: 

The College has a well-furnished library that opens up to its students from wee hours to late in the evening. It is stocked with a wide variety of books and journals (national and international).

Student Centre: 

The College indulges its students in debates, quizzes, group discussions, team tasks, dance and music competitions, and many more.

Medical Educational Unit: 

The College has also formed the Medical Educational Unit under the supervision of the dean and four faculties. The club takes the initiative to conduct workshops, talks, and seminars for the medicos.

Gender Harassment Committee: 

The College has established a Gender Harassment Committee on the college premises to handle and resist the issues of eve-teasing and sexual harassment of the students.
