About

Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE), was established in 1984 by the Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities. "Kalvi vallal" Thiru T. Kalasalingam, who was a freedom fighter and a philanthropist was the Founder Chairman.[citation needed] It was granted deemed to be university status in 2006. In November 2017, following a directive by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to drop the "University" from the name, it was renamed as Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education.

Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE), formerly Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering and Kalasalingam University, is a private deemed to be university located in Krishnankoil near Rajapalayam, 65 km (40 mi) south of Madurai and 10 km (6.2 mi) north of Srivilliputhur, in Madurai-Shenkottah National Highway (NH208). in Tamil Nadu, India. The campus is close to the ancient temple town of Srivilliputhur.  Kalasalingam is Located at the pristine foothills of scenic Western Ghats of southern Tamilnadu in a rural setting of Virudhunagar District.

The Institution having been serving the society for 39 long years, caters to the needs of the students from all walks of the society. Kalasalingam offers UG programmes, PG programmes and Ph.D programmes in various disciplines of Engineering, Science, Technology and Humanities. It is the first Institution in India to introduce a special B.Tech programme in engineering for the differently abled (speech and hearing impaired) students.

The Institution has been re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.11. Six UG programmes have been accredited by NBA under Tier-1. The Institution continues to do indefatigable work in getting projects and research centers. It has received DST funding to establish the National Center for Advance Research in Discrete Mathematics.KARE has got the state of the art IRC with splendid high end instruments for advanced research in material sciences and life sciences. Multistoried separate hostels with plenty of facilities provide accommodation to thousands of students. The institution has spent exorbitant sum to create a world class swimming pool and indoor auditorium for sports. Furthermore KARE gives utmost importance to Intra-mural and Extra mural activities for the holistic development of the students.Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education was ranked 39 among engineering colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2022.

About 220 faculty members are with PhD qualifications and International research centre established (some major equipment -Scanning Electron Microscope EVO18 (CARL ZEISS), Energy Dispersive X-ray-Spectrometer Quantax 200 with X Flash® 6130, X-ray diffractometer D8 Advance ECO, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer IR Tracer 100, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer AA 7000) by the institute plays a vital role in promoting the research culture among the faculty members and students in the campus which resulted more than 40 sponsored research projects worth of 14.5 Crore are ongoing from the Funding agencies such as DST, ICMR, DRDO, MSME, ATAL and four international research projects in collaboration with Poland, Norway, Malaysia and Thailand and more than 2500 research findings of our faculty members and students are published in the Scopus indexed journals.

This impacted the strong track record of KARE in terms of research collaborations, funding, publications and patents and the constant existence of Kalasalingam in the top lists of SIR (SCIMAGO Institutions Ranking). Admission Procedure

Kalasalingam University Courses are offered at UG, PG, Doctorate level. There are 113 courses offered at Kalasalingam University. The courses are offered disciplines like Engineering, Computer Applications, Paramedical, Management. Admission Criteria

B.Tech Admission 2025

• Admissions to the B.Tech program is based on the results of the Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education Entrance Examination (KUEE), generally conducted in the month of May / June of that year by the University.
  
• For lateral entry in B.Tech, eligible candidates need to go through an entrance examination conducted by the University, and the selection is done on the basis of merit.
  
• For B.Arch admission, the candidates must score merit marks in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) examination conducted by CoA. The admission is done on the basis of NATA exam scores along with higher secondary marks.
  

UG Admission 2025

The university offers UG courses in the fields of Technical, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, Business Administration, and Computer Applications. Additionally, the students can opt for a Bachelor of Vocational degree, which has three specializations - Maintenance of Electronics and Communication Equipment, Medical Lab Technology, and Software Development.The duration for all courses is 3 years, except B.Tech, which is 4 years, and B.Arch, which is 5 years.

PG Admission 2025

• The university offers PG courses similar to UG fields, namely Technical, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, Business Administration, and Computer Applications.
• Additionally, students can also pursue for Master of Social Work (MSW) course.
  
• The duration for all courses is 2 years, except M.C.A., which is 3 years. The university also offers lateral entry to the M.C.A. course, which is of 2 years duration.
  
• The students looking forward to taking admission to M.Tech need to clear the Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education Entrance Examination (KUEE) or GATE
  

Ph.D Admission 2025

The university offers full-time as well as part-time Ph.D courses to eligible candidates in 19 different specializations. The duration for a Ph.D. is a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years for a full-time course, whereas for part part-time course, it is a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 7 years. Additionally, the students can also go for a 1-year M.Phil course, which has five different specializations - Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biotechnology. Scholarship

The college offers a variety of scholarships and financial assistance programs. Scholarships based on academic performance include fee waivers from 50% to 100%. Students scoring above 90% in intermediate exams can get a 50% scholarship, while those with a CGPA above 8.5 can receive up to a 100% fee waiver. Sports scholarships are available for state-level athletes, providing full tuition and accommodation waivers. Government scholarships are accessible for Christian, SC, and ST community students.

Educational loans are offered through the Vidyalakshmi portal and available from banks on campus. The tuition fee structure is generally fixed for the course duration, with additional charges like admission and miscellaneous fees. Hostel fees vary based on facilities, ranging from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 120,000 per year. The college provides merit-based scholarships based on entrance exams like JEE, EAMCET, and intermediate scores, with concessions up to 75% for high-ranking students.

Financial assistance is also extended via government scholarships and loans, making it feasible for students from various financial backgrounds.Kalasalingam University offers a varied number of scholarships to students. Transport

The Institution has a fleet of 40 buses and two vans to transport students and staff members. The bus terminus include Krishnankoil, Srivilliputtur, Rajapalayam, Sivakasi, Madurai, Watrap, and Institution campus. Besides the regular scheduled trips, the facility is extended for occasions like after the college hour Special Coaching Classes, Visit to Local Industries, hospitals, NSS Camps, etc.
