Kilpauk Medical College (GKMC) is one of the premier government medical institutions in Chennai.  Founded in 1960, there are four hospitals attached to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. They are Government Royapettah Hospital, Government Thiruvotteeswarar Hospital of Thoracic Medicine, Government Peripheral Hospital, K.K.Nagar and Government Peripheral Hospital, Anna Nagar.

The Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital which started in response to the feeling of Nationalism and to keep alive the ancient systems of indigenous medicines, had its humble origin in 1925, in the School of Indian Medicine, at the behest of Vaidhya Bhushan Dr. Srinivasa Moorthy, a doyen in the field of Indian traditional medicine.

The degree conferred at this institution at that time was L.I.M. Later the College went through many transformations, in which an important one was the College of Integrated Medicine in 1953. Later in the year 1960, The Integrated Medicine Course (MBBS DEGREE) was started. In the year 1965, the College was recognised as a Women’s Medical College and named as Government Kilpauk Medical College, admitting only women candidates for MBBS degree from 1967

Later, after couple of years, the women students agitated to have a co-educational institution and the erstwhile Government of Madras granted permission.  So from 1967 both men and women were admitted to the MBBS degree and since then, the college has grown into Glory with Super-Speciality facilities.  

Kilpauk Medical College offers a huge state-of-the-art campus set in a sprawling 94.95 Acres, with hostel facility within the perimeter. It is strategically located in the heart of the city on the arterial Poonamallee High Road, Near Ega Theatre, Kilpauk, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  It is easily approachable by various modes of public and private transportation.

The Medical College is affiliated to The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC).

GKMC offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs with  an annual intake of 150 seats in MBBS, 134 seats in 22 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 38 seats in 8 disciplines of Super- Specialization studies.   The college has pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines.

Admission Procedure
