Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore is a private  Engineering College started in 1984 under the auspices of Ramanandha Adigalar Foundation, a charitable educational trust of Sakthi Group.  Arutchelvar Dr. N Mahalingam was the Founder Chairman of Sakthi Group, 6,000 crore industrial conglomerate operating in sugar, automobiles, finance, power and logistics. Dr. N. Mahalingam was a philanthropist, educationalist and a politician. He established a number of educational institutions and is known for his support to various spiritual and cultural organisations.  The able guidance and patronage of Arutselvar Dr. N.Mahalingam, Founder, Sakthi Group along with the efficient administration of Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, the resourcefulness of Sri. M.Balasubramaniam, Correspondent and the foresightedness of Sri. Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent has taken KCT on its 39 years success path to acheiving its Motto "Character is Life".

Situated in a sprawling 156-acre campus in Saranampet, the IT corridor of Coimbatore, KCT is an autonomous institution affiliated to the Anna University,  Chennai and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). KCT was granted Five Year Accreditation status in its first cycle of accreditation. The first set of Programme Accreditation was received in the year 2000 for BE – Civil, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, and Mechanical Engineering. Since then, NBA accreditation status is maintained in various programmes and, as on 01 July 2020 more than 50% of programmes offered in KCT are accredited under Tier I of Washington Accord.  In the NIRF 2020 Ranking, KCT secured 82nd Position with under the Engineering Category and committed to participate in the forthcoming years also.  Later, in the second cycle, with a CGPA of 3.21 on 4.0 scale, A Grade was awarded which was valid till 02 December 2021. In July 2022, following the NAAC Peer Team visit for third cycle of accreditation, KCT has been awarded A++ Grade, the highest grade awarded to institutions by NAAC with KCT securing a CGPA of 3.62 on a 4 – point scale. And all the eligible UG programs have also been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

KCT hails in the city of Coimbatore which is known worldwide for its heritage in engineering, automobile and textile spectrums through entrepreneurship. This ceaseless industrial development has greatly impacted the educational climate of the city and KCT aptly merges its engineering education with the industrial and entrepreneurial culture of the city and lays a successful path for global perspectives  and exchange. Impacting lives of people Since 1984 through Manufacturing, KCT offers 14 Undergraduate (B.E. and B.Tech.) and 14 Postgraduate (M.E., M.Tech., MCA and MBA) programmes. 12 academic departments have been recognized as research centers permitting research leading to Ph.D. degree awarded by Anna University.

At KCT, four academic blocks and an administrative block constitute more than one-fourth of the campus area.  The magnificence of this green canopy is great with the infrastructure for academic excellence, general facilities and  the four signature buildings such as Ramanandha Adigalar Auditorium, Jyothi Nilayam, Gnana Sabai and Temple.  The college is equipped  with excellent facilities such as spacious classrooms, seminar halls, well-equipped laboratories, excellent sporting amenities, dedicated high-speed internet connectivity (broadband) and well-qualified faculty. Playgrounds for various sports enfold 23 acres.

Kumaraguru students Hostel is an integral part of the college campus. It has two distinct sections for boys’ and girls’ students. Every hostel block has solar hot water facility, mineral water, Hot/Cold water dispenser, Newspaper, Wi-Fi and common ironing and reading room. TV, Hub (Browsing Centre), KRAFT (Gym) and indoor games are available as common facility for the hostel students. Dining hall is conveniently located close to the hostels.  

KCT's Mahatma Gandhi Central Library is housed in the first floor of Dr. Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan with large, open spaces, niches for collaborative work, open access system, creatively designed work platforms and an infusion of natural and architectural aesthetics unfolding new learning paths for everyone—student, scholar, researcher, teacher, visitor or just a curious mind.

The sports facilities on the KCT campus is conducive to any kind of sports. In the sprawling ground of 23 acres various sports activities such as, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Basketball, Volley Ball, Ball badminton, Kabaddi, Tennis, Handball, Kho-Kho, Throw ball and outdoor Gymnasium find their enthusiastic players.

The Institution is mindful about the physical and mental wellness of everyone in the campus. The Aruljyothi Medical Centre housed inside the campus caters to the basic medical care of the students, staff and faculty members.

Ramanandha Adigalar Auditorium is a huge indoor space designed with well-deployed acoustic system and lighting facilities. The spacious, well-furnished air-conditioned auditorium with lounge space, green  room, LAN/Wi-fi facilities and audio-visual systems is the venue for campus-level events such as convocation, seminars and conferences in addition to hosting a number of events of national and international reputation.

Food is an experience. The KORE cafeteria in the campus which can serve 1000 at a time, gives a hygienic, quality, timely and tasty food adding to the living and learning experience of the students, faculty and visitors. In the East side of the campus, is the East KORE cafeteria, with a seating capacity of 450 located right behind Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan. The Campus Dining near to the hostel can cater up to 240 people. Besides these food courts, Coffee shops such as Namma Cafe, K’s Cafe, Munch Box are places where students relax and share a laugh. Some of these cafeterias are managed by students as an entrepreneurial venture.  

K Mart is a retail establishment in KCT offering a wide range of consumer goods such as clothing, home appliances, cosmetics, sporting goods, books, electronics, stationery items etc.  

Jyothi Nilayam is the hospitality suite of KCT known for its ambience. Inspired by the classical South Indian courtyard style homes, the guest facility is built to the wishes of our founder Arutchelvar Ayya. With an area of about 24,000 square feet, this centrally located guest facility is an addition to the architectural beauty of KCT. A spacious central courtyard is nested by the Jyothi shrine with 14 guest rooms, conference room, a guest lounge and the dining hall. This facility plays host to important events and special guests.

  KCT provides international collaborations to enhance the scope of its students.  The Iobjective of International office of Kumaraguru institutions is to promote, integrate and support international initiatives in teaching, research and service through global partnerships to create value for the society. The strategic intent of the office is to become a global Institution in outlook, practice and reach in all the Kumaraguru Institutions.  

KCT offers Placement assisstance through The Centre for Career Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development (CEED) which aims to provide a diverse learning environment for the young and budding minds of Kumaraguru to sculpt their career path, knowing their fortes and ultimatums. CEED envisions offering career development services and resources for students to plan their careers. It also helps students explore their credible vocation while equipping them with workplace skills that complement their academic qualifications.  The vision of the college is to become a technical university of International Standards through continuous improvement and to  establish effective Industry – Institute Interaction for wider exposure to the students in the form of Industrial Training and Projects.

Admission Procedure

KCT Coimbatore is well known for offering various courses like B.E., B.Tech, M.E., M.Tech, MBA, MCA, and research programs such as Ph.D. and M.S. For admission into B.E. and B.Tech courses, students must pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and admission is done through TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) based on 12th board marks, followed by counselling. For postgraduate courses like M.E., M.Tech, MBA, and MCA, students need to appear for the TANCET exam conducted by Anna University.

Admission Process

KCT Coimbatore offers B.E. and B.Tech courses in different engineering branches. These are 4-year courses for students who have passed Class 12 with Science. Admission is given through TNEA counselling based on 12th marks. The table displays important details regarding the UG courses.

M.E / M.B.A / M.C.A - 2 Year Course

Admission Process

For admission into PG courses, candidates need to appear in the TANCET exam conducted by Anna University.Post result declaration, the university will publish a merit list based on the rank in the TANCET exam.

Eligibility

• Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% marks (55% for Reserved categories) from a recognized university.
  

NOTE - In case of MCA, candidates must have studied Mathematics at 10+2 level or graduate level.

CEED envisions offering career development services and resources for students to plan their careers. It also helps students explore their credible vocation while equipping them with workplace skills that complement their academic qualifications.

The focus is to prepare students for a smooth transition after their education in college through a carefully designed process of preparation. Through this unique process, the programs provide students with practical skills and tools to develop self-awareness, self-clarity, and employability. Through these capabilities, they can generate new opportunities, make the most of the ones they have, accelerate their growth, and succeed in newer manners. Students can also learn about a variety of potential careers and educational options by participating in programs on soft skills development.

 Scholarship

• Students belonging to Minority communities (Muslims, Christians, etc.), whose parent’s income is less than 2 Lac, can avail of this scholarship.
• Under this scholarship, the Day scholar and Hosteler are awarded an amount of Rs. 25,000 per year.

Mahatma Gandhi Central Library is housed in the first floor of Dr. Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan with large, open spaces, niches for collaborative work, open access system, creatively designed work platforms and an infusion of natural and architectural aesthetics unfolding new learning paths for everyone—student, scholar, researcher, teacher, visitor or just a curious mind.The Institution is mindful about the physical and mental wellness of everyone in the campus. The Aruljyothi Medical Centre housed inside the campus caters to the basic medical care of the students, staff and faculty members. The eight-bedded hospital with two doctors, nursing assistants and ambulance facilities is operational 24×7. Stretchers, wheel chairs, oxygen cylinders and other equipment are always on standby for any eventuality. When specialised treatments are required, the patients are immediately shifted to the multi-speciality hospitals located in the vicinity of the campus with which the institution has tie-up.

Academics achievements and sporting excellence are synchronous in KCT. The sports facilities on the campus is conducive to any kind of sports. Transport

The college has a fleet of buses and mini buses to transport students and staff from different places, in and around Coimbatore. These buses operate along different routes starting at 6:30am from different locations. Currently, there are 8 buses and 6 mini buses at service.
