A fleet of buses is available for transportation from different parts of the city. Only those students who have registered and obtained the transport ID are allowed to avail the college transport facility. The students are not allowed to change their boarding and alighting points without prior permission. Transport fee should be paid before the commencement of the semester and a pass should be obtained. Any un-authorized usage of college transport will attract disciplinary action.

Loyola College, is a private, Catholic Minority Higher Education Institution, established by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1925 in Nungambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was founded by the French Jesuit priest, Francis Bertram, along with other European Jesuits, with the primary objective of providing University Education in a Christian atmosphere for deserving students irrespective of caste and creed. It is an autonomous Jesuit college affiliated with the University of Madras.
It started functioning in July 1925 with just 75 students on the rolls in three undergraduate courses of Mathematics, History and Economics. Today, there are 19 P.G courses and 19 U.G courses (Arts, Sciences and Commerce) and 12 special Institutes offering various programs to 12,107 students. 11 departments are offering M.Phil. programs and 12 departments offer Ph.D. programs. At present, 117 teaching staff members out of 286 hold doctoral degree. There are 182 non-teaching staff in service.
Loyola College, though affiliated to University of Madras, became autonomous in July 1978. It is autonomous, in the sense that it is empowered to frame its own course of studies and adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. The University degrees will be conferred on the students passing the examinations conducted by the college.
UGC conferred the status of “College with potential for Excellence” on Loyola College in 2004 and confirmed the same in 2010. Later UGC elevated Loyola College to the status of “College of Excellence” for the period from April 1, 2014 till March 31, 2019.
NAAC's re-accreditation score in 2012 (Third Cycle) is 3.70 out of 4.00 CGPA.
The aim of the college is to educate young men and women to serve their fellow men and women in justice, truth and love. It fosters an atmosphere of intellectual vigor and moral rectitude in which the youth of our country may find their fulfillment and achieve greatness as eminent men and women of service. The main aim of Loyola is training young men and women of quality to be leaders in all walks of life, and hope to play a vital role in bringing about the desired changes for the betterment of the people of our country, more particularly of the Dalits and other poorer sections of society.

India Today magazine has repeatedly ranked the Arts, Commerce and Science departments of Loyola College amongst the top 3 in India from 2006 to 2013. Loyola College is also awarded “the Best Men's College in the City on the Employability skills” by PR Syndicate.
The re-structuring of curriculum of both for UG and PG courses has drawn great appreciation from the stakeholders, namely the students, alumni, parents and industrial partners. The system of periodical teacher-evaluation done by the students has also been welcomed. Parents -Teachers meetings are regularly organized in Loyola, which ensure periodical monitoring of the progress of students.
To ensure that all facilities are available to the students, the college has a central library with a collection of more than 1,02,000 books, 225 journals, 8,087 e-journals and 48,146 e-books. The Loyola Digital Library provides 24 hours access to the students.
The Loyola Men's Hostel and Loyola Women's Hostel together have 836 rooms and can accommodate 1650 students.
The college also has a Prayer Room, A Food Court, Recreational Center, Loyola Health Center, Wifi connectivity, gymnasium and Sports Pavilion.
The college also offers some essential and relevant services like Campus ministry, Student Counselling Center, Training and Placement Cell, Center for Women’s Studies, RCDA Center for differently-abled students and the Loyola Students Support Services (LSSS).
Loyola College received a unique recognition, from the SIRO (Scientific Industrial Research Organization) in January, 2011.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India, has recognized the quality of scientific research done in Loyola College by the approval granted to it on 01.04.2011 of tax exemption under clause (ii) sub section 1 of section 35 of the Income Tax Act 1961. Loyola College Admission Process 2023
Candidates seeking admission to Loyola College can apply for the course of their choice in online mode by visiting the official website of the college. Merit-based admission is available for undergraduate courses, except for Media courses where students must qualify for the Loyola Visual Aptitude Test (LoVAT). Likewise, admission to postgraduate courses is through a college-based entrance test.
Step 1: Application Process

Step 2: Entrance Exam for PG courses and UG courses of Media Studies
Those who wish to study PG courses or UG courses in Media Studies are required to appear for the college-level entrance exam. Other students can wait for the college to go through their applications for final seat allotment.
Step 3: Announcement of shortlisted students & final seat confirmation
The last and final step of the admission process is that candidates who are shortlisted and have their names on the merit lists can submit the fee and confirm their admission to the relevant course at Loyola College.

- Those who wish to apply for, or renew scholarship can have the application forms from the College Office. Duly filled in application should reach the College Office on or before the due date.
- Scholarship will be disbursed to students only after the amount is sent to the Principal by the Government. Students should sign the register on receipt of the scholarship.
- All money due to the College will be recovered from the scholarship amount at the time of disbursement. Intimation will be sent to parents and the balance amount if any, will be disbursed only after reply is received from them.
- As per the present rules and regulations of the Government, each scholarship holder is expected to open a saving account in a national bank, wherein the amount will be credited directly by the Government.
FACILITIES
• Library users should deposit their bag and get a token. White papers, notebooks, laptop and money wallet alone would be allowed inside the Library.
• Please avoid keeping any valuable items in your bag. Keep the token safely, till you retain your bag while you are leaving.
Reception
• Library users should tap their Identity card in the Identity card reader kept at the right side of electronic gate (outside) for Entry & left side of electronic gate (inside) for Exit.
• Any query related to library can be raised, either they would respond or they would guide to the right person.
OPAC & New Arrivals
• Online Public Access Catalogue - gives the details regarding Library Print resources. OPAC can be accessed from anywhere. For specific details refer the submenu 'Print Resources (OPAC) {How to use}' under the menu 'Resources'.
• New Arrivals - Randomly selected new books is displayed at the rotating book stand for few days before it is it is shifted to the respective sections.
Newspapers
• English and Tamil Newspapers (13) and few non academic magazines are kept here for reference. No lending, if necessary can be photocopied.
Book Self Service Terminals
• In the terminal first select the Option
for ISSUE - first place your Identity Card in the space provided, then place the book in the space provided (spine of the book should touch the machine). Once you see the success message (with the due date) in the screen, you can take the book. For more than one book, place the other book in the space provided...(repeat the above mentioned process). While leaving take your Identity Card and press the Exit menu. -If you try to take more number of books (beyond your eligibility) or reference books terminal will show error message.
