About

Established in 2^nd August 1954 by the then chief minister K.Kamaraj and the union health minister Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Madurai Medical College is a renowned institution of higher learning located in Tamil Nadu.  It is a Government owned MBBS College in India offering state-of-the-art facilities.  K.P.Sarathy was the first special officer and Sarah J Sowri, the first principal. The college was affiliated to the University of Madras in 1954 when it was accorded permanent recognition. Subsequently, the Medical Council of India’s recognition came in 1961.  When the Madurai Kamaraj University was established, the college was affiliated to it. However, with the establishment of The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University, like other medical colleges in the state, this college too was affiliated to it. 
Madurai Medical College is one of the oldest medical colleges next to Madras Medical College. The college is spread over an area of 18.93 acres, with a beautiful infrastructure.   

Madurai Medical College is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and is recognised by the World Health Organization.

The college offers a variety of courses with plenty of fieldwork and experience.  The courses offered by Madurai Medical College include Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm), Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm), Nursing, DM, M.Ch., and other para-medical courses with the stream of Medicine & Health Sciences. The college offers postgraduate degrees in medical and surgical specialities (Doctor of Medicine-MD, Master of Surgery-MS), Post Graduate Diplomas (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, DCH, DGO, DLO etc.) and some super specialities.  From introductory courses to more advanced topics, there are a variety of 50 courses including Degrees and Diplomas in Full Time mode to choose from.  Selection for admission is based on performance in the NEET exam/rank.

Madurai Medical College is a medical school attached to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Admission Procedure

Madurai Medical College offers admissions to MBBS, B.Sc., B.Pharm, MD/MS, and M.Ch. programs. For MBBS, admission is based on NEET-UG scores followed by counseling conducted by the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee. For postgraduate courses like MD/MS, NEET-PG scores are considered. The college also offers management quota seats.
