The university was established August 1, 1987 as the University of Ajmer.The name was changed in 1993. Jurisdiction of the university extends to the entire state of Rajasthan.

Since inception the university has conducted the examination of nearly 1,500,000 students in colleges throughout the state. In 1990, the history, political science, zoology, botany and mathematics departments were founded; in 1991 courses in environmental technology, microbiology and laboratory technology and instrumentation were started. In 1993, after transferring to a new campus, the courses of food and nutrition, applied chemistry, management studies and computer applications were created, offering M. Sc., MBA, postgraduate (PG) diploma and Ph.D. programmes.

The university started a PG programme in environmental science in 1998 and PG programmes in botany, zoology, business economics, commerce, population studies, history, political science and computer science in 2000. The founder Vice Chancellor of the University was Prof Rambali Upadhyaya,a renowned Management teacher who was previously teaching management students at the University of Rajasthan.

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer Admission Process

MDSU Ajmer offers admissions to a total of 71 courses spread across the diploma, UG, PG and doctoral levels. In order to take MDSU Ajmer admissions, students must fill the online application form. According to the MDSU admission process, admission to all the UG programmes and PG programmes, except B.Ed, M.Ed and M.B.A, is based on the merit of the qualifying examination that is the aggregate percentage in class 12 for UG course and on the basis of marks secured in the graduation, for MDSU PG programmes. For MDSU M.B.A admissions, students will have to appear for CMAT.

Professional Faculty Fund Fellowship:

*The college has one scholarship for each of rupees 250 per month for 12 months for the meritorious students of M.Phil, Advance Diploma, PG Diploma, Diploma courses and one each studying in the previous and final years M.A/M.Sc./M.Com./MBA or equivalent master degree course. The scholarship is also offered to the topper studying in the UG course part I, part II and part III and to the student in the I semester and Ill semester for those studying in the semester scheme.

*At the entry-level in each course, the topper of the entrance examination or if admissions are made based on % of marks at the graduate degree level, then the topper on the basis aggregate of marks in the qualifying examination shall be eligible for the scholarship in courses having more than one-year duration the toppers of the previous year shall be eligible for the scholarship.

*The MDSU scholarship is only provided to genuine candidates. The student who does not fill up is not eligible to fill up the examination form shall not be considered eligible for the scholarship.

Need Cum Merit Scholarship:

*The main objective of the MDSU Ajmer is to provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students to enable them to pursue higher education. These scholarships are available for only students only.

*These Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University Ajmer scholarships are available for students in all UG and PG courses.

*The beneficiary's annual income should not exceed Rs. 2.50 lakh from all sources. Financial assistance will be given to pursue higher education on the campus.

Student Assistantship :

*MDSU has a student assistantship where students in each department may be asked to perform various duties to assist in administrative works for which they will be paid in an earn-while-you-learn pattern. The programmes are subject to necessary office orders issued by the MDSU from time to time.

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer Facilities
MDSU offers a long list of facilities that are provided for the students and the staff. Some of the MDSU Ajmer facilities include hostels for both boys and girls with safe and comfortable accommodations. The university has a library with a large collection of books, textbooks, and other things. There is a facility for sports in the university as well. Boys Hostel
MDSU, Ajmer has a boy's hostel which is called the Nachiketa Boys’ Hostel. The hostel has single bedded rooms along with a mess facility. The hotels also have an attached reading room, and a common room with LCD TV along with Badminton Courts, Volleyball courts, Lawn Tennis, and BasketBall courts just outside the hostel.

Girls Hostel
MDSU girls hostel is called Gargi Girls Hostel which has single and double-occupying rooms. The hostels are taken care of by wardens. The hostels also have a mess facility.


Medical/Hospital
MDSU medical facilities include a hospital. The hospital is under the Incharge of a few experts. Students can avail the services of the hospital in case of emergency.


Library
The University has a Central Library is functioning since 1988, housed in a separate three-storied library building named Saraswat Bhavan in an area of 5100 sq. mtr. approx., out of which the reading area is 1500 sq. mtr. The Library has a good collection of all the subjects and has a strong collection in the subject areas of botany, chemistry, computer science, economics, environmental science, history, food and nutrition, management, mathematics, microbiology, biotechnology, political science, religion, philosophy, Vedic studies, and zoology. In addition to the general and reference books, the collection also covers sufficient journals, reports, conference proceedings, statistics, audio-visual material, and CDs. The readers are benefited from lending services, reading room facility, reference services, etc.

The university has a sports facility for students as well. Some of the MDSU sports facilities include athletics, basketball, badminton, boxing, and cricket, among others. Students can participate in the different sports events organized by the university.

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University is having a University Guest House at the feet of Aravali Hills in a healthy environmental and pollution-free area, which makes the stay of the Academicians, scholars and other persons visiting the university comfortable and joyful. It was built during the tenure of Dr. P.L.Chaturvedi, Ex Vice Chancellor of this University, and was inaugurated by Hon'ble His Excellency Shri Bali Ram Bhagat, Governor of Rajasthan and Chancellor of this University on 13th Oct 1996. The main building besides Dormitory and Dinning hall has 16 rooms, 1 AC Special Suite, and 3 AC VIP suites. The University Grants Commission has given assistance in building this Guest House, it is situated on the Pushkar By-Pass Road, near Jaipur - Ajmer National Highway No.8. Jodhpur stone has been used in this building with traditional Rajasthan outlook similar to the buildings erected in main University Campus. It has an inner courtyard with a green lawn where guests may enjoy the winter sun-shine or relax during the warm summer evenings. Round-the-clock services are provided by the Guest House.

Convenience Store

The Co-operative store "APNA BAZAAR" was started in the University campus on 1st Aug 2009 to commemorate the foundation day of the university, The Store sells all the necessary provisions, groceries, and stationeries items besides fulfilling the day-to-day needs of the staff, students, hostlers and residents of the University campus at reasonable prices. The University has made a unique endeavor in establishing a fully automated Electronic Post Office with EMS and speed Post Services.
