Malnad College of Engineering (MCE) is a prestigious autonomous college in Hassan which was established in 1960, during the second 5 year plan of India, as a joint venture between the Government of India, Government of Karnataka and the Malnad Technical Education Society, Hassan. The MCE is now a reputed Institute which has also earned the “ISTE Award” as one of the Best Engineering Colleges in the Country, in the year 2007.

The Late Honorable Shree Chandappa Patil, (IAS) who was the then Hassan District Commissioner, was the brain behind the evolution of Malnad Engineering College, Hassan. A First graduate from his village, he was a gentleman of humble origins with a vision to bring education to the masses in the remotest areas of Karnataka, This was his first venture for which the Coffee Planters, local farmers and many others contributed financially to make this college a reality.

The Malnad College of Engineering campus is spread over an area of 41.28 acres and has all the facilities expected in a modern Engineering College.  It is located midway between Bengaluru (180 kms) and Mangaluru (170 kms) on NH-75 on Salagame Road, Hassan, Karnataka. World famous temples of Belur, Halebidu, Shravanabelagola, and The Master Control Facility for INSAT Satellites are located in Hassan District

MCE Hassan is affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belgaum.  It is recognized by the UGC, approved by the AICTE and accredited by NAAC and NBA, New Delhi. It is one of the few Engineering Colleges in the country recognized for conducting the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) sponsored by the World Bank.

With roughly 4000 students on its registers, the college offers B.E in 9 disciplines, M.Tech in 8 disciplines, M.Sc (Engg) by Research and Ph.D programs. Working professionals, Faculty and others with a postgraduate qualification in the related discipline and in exceptional cases and Professionals with B.E. are eligible to apply for a Ph.D. The required qualification for M.Sc. (Engg) by Research is any 4-year Engineering degree in the related discipline.

Malnad College of Engineering offers adequate infrastructure to ensure that students have a pleasant learning experience during their college years. The College facilities include separate Boys and Girls Hostels, Library, Laboratories, Outdoor and Indoor Sports facilities, Classrooms with smart boards, Wi-Fi enabled campus, Computer Lab, Gym, Medical, IT Infrastructure, Cafeteria, Auditorium, Alumni Assn., Swimming Pool, Convenience Store, Bank/ATM, etc. At the institute level, a language laboratory with 30+1 users is available. The English module, the career module, and the aptitude module are all part of the language lab.

The department of Training and Placement, established during the early nineties, has a full-fledged office in the campus which trains and assists the students in securing employment in reputed companies. This year, 74 multi-national and national companies hosted their Campus Recruitment drive in MCE Hassan. Indian Navy, Juspay, DBS Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Protechsoft, EmberUR Systems, Kaar Technologies, IBM, Accenture, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, L&T, BEL, Fistchner, Builders’ Association of India are the few recruiters given dream status and Amazon was the major International recruiter. The department of Training and Placement, established during the early nineties, has a full-fledged office in the campus. Senior Professor with good experience is entrusted with the responsibility of the Training and Placement officer, with supporting staff to cater to the needs of industry and student community. The department has exclusive board room and 5-panel rooms with all facilities to carry out the campus hiring programs. Programs offered with details: The enrollment of the students for this department will be done during the beginning of V semester. The database of each of the enrolled candidates will be kept ready for any of the hiring programs. After the enrollment, a department-wise briefing will be done to students about the importance of placement and the related training.

An introductory talk will be given by TPO about the opportunities and about career growth and planning. Since most of the visiting companies emphasize on communication skills, it is now made mandatory that the students in the first year will undergo a credit course on Professional English and in the subsequent years on communications skills and other soft skills. A three-day program on FEEL EMPLOYABLE will be done with the assistance of CLHRD of Mangalore to enhance the soft skills. Two weeks course is conducted after the sixth semester exams by reputed trainers. This includes aptitude training the students on soft skills and aptitude. This too is a credit course and hence is mandatory for all the students. A crash course on C and C++ will be conducted for non circuit branch students to meet the demands of software industries. In between expert speakers from Industry will be invited to have interaction with students and also about the latest technological developments.

The college has an exhaustive library with more than 96780 volumes and has a well furnished Reference section. The library gets several journals in various fields of Science, Engineering and Technology.It has ain-house browsing centre. E-library facility is also provided to the fellow students for the access of online journals. In addition to this, each department has an In-house libry. Students who are weak in English communication skills – reading, writing, and comprehension will be identified by the faculty.

Teaching communication skills course and will be given the assignment to work in the language lab. In addition, faculty and students if interested can come to the language lab and work on the above modules. One faculty from each Engineering department will officiate as department-level coordinators for language lab. The department coordinators will make a list of students in consultation with the Communication skills course faculty and the same will be forwarded to the institute coordinator.The laboratory staff in the language lab will assign the user name and password for each student.The students will work on the specified module and the report of their performance is generated which will be submitted to the department coordinator for further action.

The college provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls with well-maintained rooms, hygienic dining, and security. The hostels offer a comfortable and disciplined environment suitable for academic focus.

MCE operates a few Buses to MCE Girls Hostel to pickup MCE students from the hostel and the same for dropping. Bus timings between MCE Girls Hostel and MCE Campus.
