Mangayarkarasi college of Arts and Science for women was established in 1997 by our benevolent founder, Amarar Pitchiah Pillai, a great philanthropist and a visionary of the 20th century. Ours is a fantabulous campus located in a pollution free, pleasant environment conducive for learning. Our college has been Re-Accredited by NAAC with “B” Grade during the academic year 2018-2019. The management is thoroughly dedicated to education.

Vision and Mission of the institution is expressed to the students during the introductory session, orientation program, bridge course and teaching-learning process. The great ideals, mission and objectives of the institution have been conveyed to the stakeholders by conducting awareness programs through prospectus, pamphlets, folders, CDs, posters & flex. To exhibit our college vision & mission and achievements we make use of ICT tools. These are presented through power point to our stakeholders. Parents–Teachers meeting is organized regularly at least four times a year – twice per semester.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO THE COURSE

A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the programme leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Education ( B.Ed) provided:

The candidates who had undergone 10+2+3 (15) or 11+1+3 (15) pattern of study and passed the X and XII examinations conducted by the respective State Board or CBSE or any other recognized Board of Education/Examination and UG Degree examination of the UGC approved Universities in any one of the school subjects offered by the Directorate of School Education at the Secondary /Higher Secondary Education level or is equivalent as it is decided by the Equivalence Committee appointed by Government of Tamil Nadu from time to time.

The candidates who have passed the UG or PG degree in Open University System without qualifying in 11 years SSLC examination and 1 year of Pre – University Course (PUC) examination or 10+2 pattern of school education examination shall not be considered for admission.

However, the candidates not qualified in XII examination or PUC but possessing Two Years Bachelor Preparatory Programme Certificate / Two Years Foundation Corse Certificate / Two Years Diploma Course conducted by State Government / recognized Universities and qualified with three years UG Degree course are also considered to be eligible for admission.

The candidates who have studied more than one main subject in Part III (Under Double/Triple Major System) of UG Degree course should have to choose only one of the main subjects and should have applied for that Optional only. In such cases, marks obtained by the candidates in two/three major subjects shall be taken into account to arrive percentage of marks stipulated in item (viii).

.The candidates who have passed under Double Degree/ Additional Degree Programme with less than three years of duration are not eligible for admission.

The candidates who have qualified in PG Degree (5 year integrated course) under 10+2+5 or 11+1+5 pattern of study shall be considered for admission. In such cases, the marks obtained by the candidates in the first three years (in major and ancillary/ allied subjects alone) of the course alone shall be taken into account for admission.

The candidates with the following marks (which is subject to the decision of Government of Tamilnadu from time to time) in the Bachelor’s Degree are eligible for admission to the course other than subjects like Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture for which PG qualification is mandatory.

Note:

Marks obtained by the candidates in U.G. degree course Part III Major and Allied including Practicals (other than Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture) alone shall be taken into account to arrive at the percentage of marks mentioned above.

Marks obtained by the candidates in PG degree (other than Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture) shall not be considered for admission.

Rounding off of marks to the next higher integer will not be permitted.

8. Candidates who have passed PG Degree in Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture without undergoing 10+2+3 or 11+1+3 pattern of education shall not be considered for admission.

9. In the case of Physically or Visually Challenged candidates, a minimum pass in the degree is enough.

10. Post graduate candidates in Econ Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture with 50% (irrespective of their UG mark) of mark in PG Degree or in the interdisciplinary subjects which are being declare equivalent by the respective University / Equivalence Committee can apply.

However, the basis of selection shall be in accordance with the Regulations of the University / Government of Tamil Nadu Guidelines for admission to B.Ed course in force from time to time.

The Placement Cell of this college provides adequate support & guidance for the students in their perusal towards attaining their career goals & emphasis is given for soft skill development which complements the regular academic programmes. Placement & Career Guidance Cell is one of the important organs of Mangayarkarasi College of Arts and Science for Women. It helps to link the aptitude, aspiration, and knowledge of every student to get employed. Our college provides a friendly and challenging environment in order to meet the demands of today’ s competitive world. The uniqueness of Placement and Career Cell of this prestigious Institution is prevalent through the execution of meticulous planning and systematic schedule. As the candle spreads, and the mirror reflects the light, the department spreads the light to reflect the dreams and goals of the students. The Placement Cell of the Institute organizes campus placement initiatives of the graduating students of our college. All SC/ST community students of our college are receiving financial aids from the Institution given by the Government, on time through bank cheque.

Well intellectual, deserving students among the needy / poor students are adorned with free ships provided by our management.

The Canteen

The Management of the Canteen is directly under the control of College Administration. The Contractor of the Canteen is selected according to the available and suitable quotations. A well experienced person in food services management, his team is managing, the canteen of MCW. Students and staff of the College are benefited by the College canteen.  Menu will be planned by the assigned team of Management and instructions will be given to the Contractor.  The contract of the Canteen will be renewed every year. Periodical meeting will be conducted by the team of Management and Contractor in order to appraise the function of Canteen.The waste utilization of the canteen is efficiently done through the waste recycling plant installed in the campus. A bio-gas plant is installed near the canteen. Bio-degradable waste is converted into manure through this plant and the gas produced is used for cooking. The canteen and the surroundings are always kept neat.Only one common eating facility (canteen facility) shall be provided in the campus for day scholars, hostelers, teaching and non-teaching staff of the College. The management is fully committed to keep the quality of the canteen for the utmost benefit of all concerned.

The Hostel

MCW provides hostel facility for girls. The hostel are inside the campus and can accommodate 65 students. The students in the hostel feel a home away from home. Students from different parts of Tamilnadu while staying together have better understanding and help to adapt different kinds of students.

CENTRAL LIBRARY

Overview

Mangayarkarasi College of Arts & Science Library exists to support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Library pursues higher value of Knowledge, Creativity, Wisdom and Empowers its users to be connected with literate published/available in the field through its collection and networks. The library is situated in Block 2 with 3135 sq.fts. It has 150 seating capacity. Library has established conducive atmosphere with provision of tables and chairs for reading with good ventilation for the students. Adequate space if provided for browsing and relaxed reading. Library has stocking over 13,000 books and 80 printed journals in a separate journal section. It has computerized circulation service and provided with OPAC facility to know the availability of the books etc. E-books and E-journals facility is provided to the users including remote access.

The Women’s Cell endeavors’ to empower women and at creating wider gender sensitivity so as to facilitate a congenial working environment. The Women’s Cell is to serve the Women faculty and students of college.

To enhance the self-esteem and self-confidence of women students, faculty and staff in the college.

The Transport

MCW operates buses for the convenience of students and staff coming from in and around various city. College is running bus services from different locations so that students hailing from any location within Madurai will have a nearby pickup cum-drop back point to board the college bus to come to college and to go back home. Parents also can have peace of mind while their wards are out in the college and need not worry about the traffic and driving problem. This transport facility is also used for various educational purposes like field trips, industrial visits and recruitment’s.
