MAR GREGORIOS COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCE is a model Christian minority educational institution established in the city of Chennai with an 4.5acre campus named after Most Rev.BENEDICT MAR GREGORIOS, LATE ARCH BISHOP of Thiruvanandapuram Arch Diocese managed by the Malankara Syrian Catholic Management (MSCM). This management has rendered a remarkable service in the field of Medicine, Engineering, School and Collegiate Education all over India since 1930.

MGC was founded in year 1997, while Rt. Rev. Dr. Joshua Mar Ignathios, Bishop, Diocese of Mavelikarawas the first Director of the college. The college is affiliated to the UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS and approved by the Government of Tamilnadu, since 1997. The College is ISO 9001:2015 certified Institution.

The college offers 12 degree programs and 3 post-graduate programs, functioning in two shifts, Shift-I & Shift-II. Shift-I offers under graduation courses in Computer Application, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Science, Mathematics, Visual Communication, Business Administration, Commerce (Accounting & Finance), Commerce (Corporate Secretaryship), Commerce (General), English and Tamil Literature, and Post Graduate Courses in Computer Science, Social Work and Commerce (General). Shift-II offers Under Graduation Courses in Computer Application, Computer Science, Business Administration, Commerce (Computer Application), Commerce (Corporate Secretaryship), Commerce (General).

STATE AND CENTRAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

The Scholarship Committee facilitates the process of various State and Central Government

Scholarships made available to its Under Graduate and Post Graduate Students. The Committee

strives to help gain access to all the educational scholarships offered by the state and Central

Government. The Scholarship information will be posted on the website and also informed

through circular class wise and year wise. One faculty is nominated from each department as

scholarship coordinator and they will look after all the scholarship procedures and scrutinizes

the applications and upload necessary documents in official online portal as and when required.

The Government of Tamil Nadu (Dept. of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare (ADTW)) provides

Post-Matric Scholarship to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled

Converted Christian Students (SCC). Scholarship is based on annual income of the parent

certified by the Tahsildar of the district. The entire process has been made available online.

Scholarship is directly credited to the beneficiary student’s bank account. Course fee amount is

directly sent to college through individual cheque.

•Library

The College has a library that is an organized collection of information resources in printed and digital forms that are made accessible for reference and borrowing. library with the intention of providing free access to printed materials with the altruistic goal of educational enlightenment and the better welfare of students. The Department of Library and Information Science plays a significant role by providing books, journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. for both staff and students to enhance their knowledge. The Library issues library cards to all the staff and the students. Staff is given 5 cards each. 2 cards are given for UG students and 3 cards are given for G students. The Library increases its number of books by purchasing them every year. Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, and a wide range of reference books are available for the students. 2 Journals were subscribed to the Department of Tamil for reference purposes only. The Library is endowed with Internet accessibility with 3 systems to enhance the activities of staff and students. General Magazines and magazines for the Department of Computer Science, Electronic Science, and Commerce are regularly subscribed to. 8 Daily newspapers and a few journals of general interest are also subscribed to the library. The Library has a total of 13,885 books and 19 journals.

Sports

The College has a spacious Playground of around 5 acres. MG Sports Academy conducts Training and Coaching for various sports events like Football, Cricket, Athletics, Tennis, Kabaddi, and Badminton by professionally trained personnel. Training and coaching are available for college students and also for the general public. The Playground is a multi-purpose ground with a cricket field, 3 cricket nets for practice, a football field, badminton courts, a tennis court, and a 200 m track for athletics. Yoga training is also given by experienced trainers.

The College has For the smooth conduct of various college cultural events, Mar Gregorios College boasts of two indoor auditoriums, the MAR IVANIOS HALL, and the NEW AUDITORIUM. Both are well-furnished and equipped with modern projection and audio systems. Mar Ivanios Hall has the capacity of occupying 600 students and New Auditorium has the capacity of occupying 500 students. There is also an OPEN AUDITORIUM, which can accommodate around 1000 spectators.
