Established in the year 1988, M.G.R. College of Arts and Science has emerged as an outstanding institution of higher education in Hosur. It is a co-educational college affiliated to Periyar University, Salem and managed by the Adhiyamaan Educational and Research Institution Trust. It is located about 35 km from SE of Bangalore and 45 km from NW of Krishnagiri, the district headquarters. It’s strategic location makes the college a much sought-after institute in the vicinity apart from its academic excellence.

The college offers 12 U.G courses, 9 P.G courses and 4 Ph.D programmes besides several value-added courses. In recognition of its potential in the field of higher education, the NAAC has re- accredited the college with B+ grade and recognised it under section 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act.

TRAINING AND PLACEMENT

The MGR College Placement Cell aims at making available quality placement opportunities for the students by maintaining linkages with Human Resource Departments in Industry and Research Institutions. The alumni of the institute also play a dynamic role in this venture. The placement cell is headed by two Training and Placement Officers (TPOs) and has a faculty representative from each department under the MGR College umbrella. These representatives are the conveners of student and faculty level training.

The placement cell is responsible for maintaining contact with industries specific to their specialization and for arranging placement visits to the campus. Apart from faculty representation the students from each class represent as placement coordinators. Regular meetings of TPOs with student coordinators are held at every fortnight for dissemination of information regarding placement.

Numerous training programmes were conducted for a period of 6 months by 50+ trainers with an objective of exposing the students to know the importance of career counseling and placement. The prime focus of the training was to update the students with the skills that are required to cater the needs in career development. In the training programme special emphasis was given in the areas related to aptitude, soft skills, stress management, group discussion and over all personality development. Activity based training and mock interviews were also conducted to help the students to fetch knowledge with respect to the demands and expectation of the industries related to placement.

Boys Hostel

 The Institution has three hostels Two for Boys Each hostel can accommodate 500 residents. There is a separate Dining Hall with a capacity of 400 each. It has all the infrastructural facilities like well-furnished rooms, a modern kitchen with clean dining halls, a water heater indoor and outdoor games, a library, and a computer center. An open-air theatre is provided within the Ladies Hostel. The hostel also has cultural clubs to promote extracurricular activities.

Library

 The Library contains 32506 volumes of books. The Library subscribes to 50 National and International Journals and 250 e-journals, 17 Newspapers besides holding 350 bound volumes of Journals. Books are classified and arranged according to the Dewey decimal classification scheme (DDC). Books are cataloged according to the Anglo-American Catalogue Rule – II (AACR –II). The Library also contains CD-ROMs. The Library is open on all working days from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Sports

The college has an extensive playground of 5 acres which serves multipurpose. The institution’s state-of-the-art infrastructure supports both indoor and outdoor sports and games. With different games on hand, we have a well-maintained play area for Football, Hockey, Cricket, Kabbadi, and Kho-Kho. In addition to this, there are two concrete Basketball courts, three volleyball courts, and two tennis courts, which are available all the time for student’s access. The exquisite auditorium facilitates indoor games as it houses a carom and chess area, table tennis court, and boxing zone.
