M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women (Autonomous)
Sri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha, in its silver jubilee year, collaborated with Dewan Bahadur M. O. Parthasarathy Iyengar Charities and established M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women in 1992. Dewan Bahadur M.O.Parthasarathy Aiyengar was a leading barrister, visionary philanthropist of yester years and an ardent advocate of women’s education. The college is a dream realization - the result of the determination and sustained efforts of the two trusts. Both of these organizations have eminent industrialists, administrators and people committed to the cause of women’s education. The M.O.P Charities donated the land for the campus while the Infrastructure and Administration is handled by Sri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha. In 2002, the college was accredited with four stars by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and in the same year it was granted Permanent Affiliation by the University of Madras. It also has the distinction of being one of the youngest colleges in the country to have been granted Autonomy by the University Grants Commission and University of Madras.
M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women (Autonomous) is an Arts and Science College located in Nungambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu in southern India. It is committed to the goals of attracting and supporting top calibre women students in the areas of higher education and empowering them through holistic education that would enrich their personality and groom them into academically proficient, self- reliant, motivated, creative, analytical, culturally rich, self-sustained, humane, responsible and confident individuals. According to the survey on the Best Commerce Colleges All Over India by THE WEEK in association with Hansa Research, M.O.P Vaishnav College is in the 36th position. The college is re accredited by NAAC with a 3.56 GPA on a 4-point scale and an 'A++' grade.
Since its inception the college has recorded a phenomenal continual growth. Initiated with just three courses- B.Com, BBA, B.Sc.(Maths), today the college offers 17 UG, 7 PG Programmes, and Research programmes in the Departments of Commerce, Management Studies and Communication & Media Studies. It has A strength of over 3900 students, thus, recording a qualitative and quantitative growth.
MOP Vaishnav offers various extra curricular activities for their students. The college has many clubs, workshops, seminars, cultural activities, research and journal publications.
The college has as many as 16 club activities for each department that bring out innate talents and contribute to the students' development in terms of teaching organizing, planning, evaluation, et cetera. The college publishes a series of journals by the students with guidance from their department faculty.
Apart from academics, the college also offers a platform for women who are into sports. Until date as many as 52 international players have been successfully produced by the college. Sports like basketball, volleyball, chess, hockey, cricket, etc. are a part of the college. The college offers scholarship for women who excel in sports at state, national and international level.
The college also has a National Cadet Corps (NCC) division which has produced 52 cadets in army and 5 flight cadets. The college students have represented the college in Republic Day camp (RDC) at Delhi and Thal Sainik Camp(TSC).
M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women conducts annual cultural extravaganza that bring out the competitive spirit of the students. The main aim is to provide opportunies that facilitate the overall development of students. The 2 main events are Abhilasha - a 3-day talent scoutfor Freshers and Jhankar - an annual cultural extravaganza. Apart from these activities, MOP Vaishnav is well known for its presence in the cultural events of other colleges throughout the country. VISH- The Vaishnav Initiative for Social Help is one of the unique events conducted by the college.
The college has an Entrepreneurship Development Cell which provides a platform for the students to experience entrepreneurship. the two main Entrepreneurship Awareness Programs are: Akriti and Seminars. The college strives to kindle the thirst for knowledge in students by conducting seminars and conferences. These seminars are designed to provide an opportunity for students to interact with the 'Best in the Business' so that they are abreast with the latest breakthroughs in their field of study. In the last five years the college has organized as many as 28 Seminars & Conferences:
