Admission Procedure

Admission to Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR) in Kohima for the MBBS program is based on the NEET UG exam and subsequent counselling conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Kohima. You must first pass the NEET UG entrance exam, and then participate in the state counselling process to secure a seat

• Entrance exam: NEET‑UG

  • Admission to MBBS at NIMSR is strictly via NEET‑UG. Qualified aspirants must appear in NEET‑UG. 

  • After NEET results, seat allotment is done via counselling — either under the State quota (for domiciled students of Nagaland) or via the All‑India Quota (AIQ), depending on seat and eligibility. 

• Counselling & Seat Allotment

  • For Nagaland domicile candidates, counselling is conducted by the appropriate state authority (often the State Directorate/ Department responsible for medical education/technical education), as per notifications.

  • After seat allotment, candidates must report to NIMSR within the specified timeframe, submitting all required documents (academic certificates, NEET scorecard, domicile/PRC certificate, etc.). 

• Admission Confirmation & Registration

  • On reporting, students need to complete admission formalities, pay fees (as per institute norms), and register as MBBS students. 

  • Hostel allotment (if needed) would follow, for those requiring accommodation.

Eligibility

• Educational Qualification

  • Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board.

  • Mandatory subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (or Biotechnology), and English.

  • Minimum aggregate marks in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology):

    • General category: 50%

    • SC/ST/OBC: 40%

    • PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability): 45%

• Age Limit

  • Must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31 December of the year of admission.

  • Upper age limit for NEET‑UG is usually 25 years for general category, 30 years for reserved categories.

• Entrance Exam
