The institute is established in 2008 with an aim to be Leading Lights in Gujarat and to create national and Global Technical Men-power. The institute is blessed by Acharya Shree Koshlendraprasadji Maharaj and Acharya Shree Tejendraprasadji Maharaj and is connected with one of the divine Shree Swaminarayan Temple - Kalupur, Ahmedabad. It is functioning under "Swaminarayan Vividh Seva Niketan Trust - Jetalpur". It admits students from all over the Gujarat as well as other states of India to the Bachelor of Engineering and imparts training to make them competent, motivated Engineers, Leaders, Thinkers and Scientists. The academic program of NSIT is approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU).

With its establishments in 2008, the institute comprised of Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science Engineering. Thereafter the institute has been expanded with inclusion of two new departments in the fields of Civil Engineering and Automobile Engineering.

The Management has decided to expand the institute horizontally and vertically in coming years by following the word of Lord Swaminarayan. Moreover, Institute will introduce Master Degree Programs like MBA, MCA and M.E. Our aim is to lead the institute towards University.

Primary goal of this cell is to combine the education and the practical aspects by means of recruitments and industrial visit & training. The Training and Placement Cell has been busy with various activities for the furtherance of the academic interests of the students of the institute so that they are provided with opportunities to acquire the practical knowledge relating to the applications of their knowledge in the pertinent fields. Also in order to deal with acute energy crisis which is hampering the industrial growth and economic progress of our country, the Green Energy Generation is one of the vital components that helps to face such challenges and we, at NSIT are contributing to the possible extent by deploying Solar Power Generation system within the campus having capacity of 22KW to tackle the energy crisis through judicious utilization of the abundant renewable energy resources.
Solar Power, a clean renewable resource with zero emission, has got tremendous potential of energy which can be harnessed using a variety of devices.

The Narnarayan Shastri Institute Of Technology Central Library is the soul of the institution and it acquires, processes, preserves and disseminates information to the user community with the motto of empowering knowledge.
It has an extensive collection of books, scientific and technical journals and electronic reference materials for satisfying the academic and research needs of the students and faculty.
The library has automated all its library activities to provide effective and wide range of academic resources such as books, journals, online databases.

The Institute trust “Swaminarayan Vividh Sevaniketan Trust” has constructed the Primary Health centre at the campus of the institute itself and handed over to the District Panchayat. It caters the health services to around 20+ surrounding villages.
