About

National Engineering College, Kovilpatti is an autonomous institution, established in the year 1984 by Kalvithanthai Thiru. K. Ramasamy, the founder.   The institution runs under the National Educational Charitable Trust, founded by the chairman.

National Engineering College is spread in a huge sprawling campus area of 163 acres of land.  The college is located in K.R.Nagar, Kovilpatti, Thoothukudi (Dt), Tamil Nadu.  It is situated close to National Highway 44. Thoothukudi (60 km), Madurai (100 km), Tirunelveli (60 km) and  Kanyakumari (110 km) are the major cities that are close by. The nearest railway station is in Kovilpatti.  Thoothukudi Airport is possibly the closest commercial, and domestic airport, while Madurai Airport is the closest international airport.

NEC is affiliated with Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and accredited by NBA. The institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.  National Engineering College is ranked 189 in NIRF Ranking and received BAND 'A' by ARIIA 2020.  It has also been Accredited by NAAC with ‘B++’ Grade.

National College of Engineering provides UG – B.E/B.Tech and and PG – M.E/M.Tech courses in various domains.  Admission is done based on the previous qualifying examination and entrance exam test conducted by the state - TNEA for UG and GATE/TANCET for PG.
NEC has provided the students with abundant facilities over the years. The facilities include Common computing center, ED Cell, Incubator Cell, Health Care center, Bank, Post Office, Separate Hostel for Boys and Girls, Cafe,  Bank, Post Office, Fitness store, ATM, stationery shop, 24*7 WiFi Facility and more.

NEC has several Centers of Excellence and laboratories. The college has signed MoU with Research Organizations and Industries in order to promote closer interaction with other institutions in the areas of Technology Development, Training of students, Curriculum Updation and Development of state-of-the-art Centers. The College has well-equipped laboratories for all branches of engineering and also has close interactions with the leading Industries and IT firms for students’ Training and Project works. ADMISSION PROCEDURE

National Engineering College(NEC), Thoothukkudi offers B.E. and B.Tech degrees in 6 and 2 specializations, respectively. Candidates must have completed a minimum of 10 + 2 in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a national or state board. Admissions for the B.E. and B.Tech courses are done using the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) process based on their Class 12 scores.

The students seeking admission to the first semester of the eight semesters B.E./B.Tech.Degree Programme shall require satisfying eligibility rules as prescribed by the University and the Government of Tamil Nadu from time to time.

M.E  - 2 Year Course

Admission Process

Students for admission to the M.E degree programme will be required to satisfy the conditions of admission there to prescribed by the university and Government of Tamil Nadu. Detailed admission criterion is given below.

The Central Library at our college is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as the intellectual hub for our academic community. Equipped with advanced technology, it boasts an extensive collection of resources, including books, journals, electronic databases, and multimedia materials. At the heart of the library is our automated system, which enables seamless management and retrieval of resources. With the aid of advanced software and hardware, our library staff can instantly locate and deliver requested materials to users in a timely and efficient manner. In addition to its impressive collection, our Central Library offers a range of specialized services to support research and learning. Our reference desk is staffed by expert librarians who are available to offer guidance and assistance on a variety of topics. We also come up with a range of instructional programs and workshops, including information literacy sessions and citation management tutorials, to help people develop their research skills and stay up-to-date with the latest trends in scholarly communication.

Free medical support is offered to all the employees and students of the institution. The good health and well-being of the students are ensured by the regular visits of experienced doctors and two full-time nurses.The campus has food points at four different places providing all types of brews and bites, meals, fresh juice and beverages. In addition, the canteen caters delicious food items in a wide enough space that can accommodate more than 320 persons at a time. The variety of menus served at all times is commendable for creating a home-like environment.

Transport

Transportation facilities for students and faculty commute from various points in the city, including Vilathikulam, Aruppukkottai, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Viruthunagar, Sivakasi, Sattur, Rajapalayam, Ettayapuram, Sankarankovil and Kovilpatti. For safety and convenience, thirty buses are functioning for comfortable travel.

The buses report to the college before 9.00 a.m. and depart at 5.40 p.m. for students to reach home safely and comfortably. Special buses are arranged daily for students attending special classes, using the internet facility, library etc., leaving the campus at 6.30 p.m.
