Admission Process

• Register Online — For BCA/B.Tech (or other courses), visit NIELIT’s admission portal. Applicants need to complete “New Registration” and fill personal + academic details. 

• Pay Application / Course Fee — Payment is done online during registration. 

• Entrance / Merit / Counselling (Depending on Course)

  • For B.Tech: seats are allocated via national counselling (JOSAA/CSAB) using entrance exam rank. 

  • For BCA (and maybe some B.Tech leftover seats): there may be an entrance test conducted by NDU when admissions are open. 

  • There are also “spot-round” admissions sometimes — e.g. a notice for 2025-26 shows spot admission for BCA, B.Tech-CSE and MCA on 15 September 2025 at NIELIT Patna campus. 

• Document Verification & Reporting — Once selected (via merit/entrance/spot round), candidates must report at the campus (in person) with required original documents for verification (mark-sheets, 10th/12th, ID proofs, etc.).

Eligibility

• For BCA: Eligibility is 10+2 (i.e. you must have passed Class 12) from a recognized board. 

• For B.Tech: Admission is (generally) through national-level counselling based on entrance (for first year) — i.e. for 2025-26 admissions via JOSAA / CSAB based on your entrance exam score. 

• For leftover or extra seats (if any) — there may be a direct “spot-round” (or leftover seat admissions) for BCA, B.Tech, etc. at NIELIT Patna.

M.Tech - 2 Years Course

Admission Process

• Primary route: via GATE + CCMT counseling

  • If you have a valid GATE score, admissions to M.Tech programmes are done through centralised counselling using the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan (CCMT). 

• For leftover / vacant seats (if any) — Institute-level entrance / written test

  • After CCMT counselling, if some seats remain vacant, NIELIT may conduct its own written entrance test for non-GATE candidates, and select candidates based on merit. 

  • The syllabus for the institute-level test generally follows the relevant GATE syllabus (for example, for Electronics & Communication or related streams) when applicable. 

• Online Registration

  • For all applicants (GATE or non-GATE), one needs to register through NIELIT’s admissions portal (online).

Eligibility

• You need a B.E. / B.Tech. (or equivalent) in a relevant branch (Electronics & Communication / Electronics / Electrical & Electronics / Electronics & Instrumentation / Instrumentation & Control — depending on specialization). 

• A minimum of 50% marks (or equivalent CGPA) in the qualifying degree is generally required. For SC/ST candidates there is a 5% relaxation.
