National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is located in Mangalore City, Karnataka State, India. The Institute was established as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) in 1960, and upgraded as National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002. Mangalore is the headquarters of the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, and boasts an important centre of education, business and trade in the

state. Sri. U. Srinivasa Mallya, a visionary and a philanthropist, contributed immensely to the development of the coastal region of Karnataka, and his effort towards establishment of KREC (now NITK) is the most significant one. In recognition of his role as the founder and architect of the institute, the campus premises is named after him as Srinivasnagar.

The whole admission process for all the courses offered is offline and merit-based. Any candidate who fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria can take part in the admission process. Admission to all the courses is based on the marks scored by the applicant in the concerned qualifying examination.

NITK Surathkal, one of the acclaimed technical Institutes of the country, is happy to announce that the current final / pre-final year students (2018-19) have been offered excellentplacements / internshipsby companies that visited the campus since August 2018. During the Phase-I Campusrecruitment that took place from first week of August to third week of November, more than 4/5th  of the final year BTech students have been placed in reputed organizations from IT sector, service sector, and productbased and core industries.
