National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (NIT Durgapur), located in Durgapur, West Bengal, is a premier public technical institute and one of India’s first eight Regional Engineering Colleges. Established in 1960 by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal, it later gained Deemed University status and became an NIT in 2003. The institute was founded to strengthen technical education and promote excellence in engineering, research, and innovation.

Admission Procedure

Facilities Offered @ National Institute of Technology Durgapur

The Library, as one of the important central facilities of the Institute, supports the study, teaching, research and development programmes of the Institute. It is housed in a separate building with three floors on a plinth area of 1000 sq. metres. The library has a collection of 1.7 lakh volumes of Print books, including Text Books, Reference Books & Bound volumes of Journals, Standards, etc. The Library subscribes to current Journals, E-Books, Databases & and Software. Library operations have been automated with the help of an integrated library software package, LIBSYS-10. The book database is accessible through the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Circulation Services are executed through the Barcode System (Scanning). It has a good collection of Electronic resources in its Digital Library. The library has introduced a Wi-Fi Internet facility inside it to facilitate the free flow of information to the users.

The ‘Computer Centre’ provides central computing facilities for the students, scholars and the teachers of the whole Institute. The Centre started as a server room in year 1986 to handle NIT Durgapur campus network. On November 11, 2002 additionally started working with new building as a central computing facility for the students, scholars, and the teachers of the whole Institute. The Centre has necessary infrastructure like sufficient number of computer hardware, software, air-conditioned labs, and stabilized uninterrupted power supply. All these infrastructure are maintained by trained technical team members.

NIT Durgapur promotes healthy and fit lifestyle of the campus community and focuses on both physical and psychological well-being. The Medical Unit prioritizes intensive care and attentive treatment by catering to the needs of its employees and students. One of the most indispensable necessities in the college campus, the Medical Unit of the Institute is served by three resident doctors, three Contractual doctors and other medical staff. 

The institute provides separate hostels for boys and girls with facilities such as furnished rooms, Wi-Fi, study halls, mess, purified water, 24/7 security, and recreational areas. Hostels are spacious, well-maintained, and equipped for comfortable student living.

NIT Durgapur is well-connected by road and rail. Local transport like buses, autos, and e-rickshaws are available near the campus. The institute may also provide internal transportation support for academic or administrative purposes.
