The 32 acres of the land where the college is located was bought by Rev. James Emlyn, a missionary from Newcastle UK of the London Missionary Society. Rev. Robert Sinclair, who succeeded him in 1910, built a bungalow and started a Boarding School.

After independence, the Kanniyakumari Diocese of the Church of South India took into consideration the long-felt need for a College at Marthandam and decided to begin a Christian college.  The Executive Committee of the Diocese, which met on 04-01-1964, entrusted the responsibility of raising funds for the buildings to an ad-hoc committee consisting of Mr. N. Dennis, Ex. MP(Convener), Mr.G.A. Ambrose, Mr.J. Nesamony, Mr.P.S. Wilson and Rev. M.Amos. The Diocese set apart the 32 acres as an endowment to fulfil the University requirement. The public, in and around Marthandam, the parents, students and members of the teaching and non-teaching staff took a keen interest in the growth of the College and contributed substantially at different stages in its development.

The Pre- University Class (PUC), with the permission of the Madras University, was started in 1964 with 13 teaching staff members and 171 students. The College was inaugurated on 6th August 1964 by the then Bishop Rt. Rev. I.R.H. Gnanadason with Dr. John D.K. Sundar Singh as the first Principal. Initially, the College was started as a men’s College and it became a Co-Educational institution in the year 1977. The College introduced undergraduate courses with Mathematics, History and Economics as major subjects in the year 1965. In 1966, the college was affiliated with Madurai University which was later renamed Madurai Kamaraj University. The College became a Post Graduate Institution in the year 1980-81 with the introduction of M.Sc. in Physics. A Ph.D. Research Centre in History was started in the year 1997 in the regular scheme. The College now offers 20 U.G., 15 P.G, 12 M.Phil., 12 Ph.D. & 11 Certificate Courses.  Currently, the college has about 4050 students,187 teaching, 93 non-teaching staff members  and a chaplain.

The College was affiliated with Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli in 1991, God has guided and blessed the college tremendously. With faith in the divine, guidance and co-operation from the public, the College will continue to shine as a fruitful centre of learning.

The College was renamed as Nesamony Memorial Christian College in recognition of the yeoman services rendered by the late Thiru. A. Nesamony, B.A.,B.L.,M.P. to the Kanniyakumari Diocese of the Church of South India in1984.

The College was accredited with 'A' Grade awarded by the NAAC for the period 2014-2019.

Community Certificate

Photo copy of community certificate issued by the Tamil Nadu Govt. must be attached with the application and the original to be shown at the time of interview. This certificate is not necessary for forward community candidates.

Marks And Ranking

Rank list should be prepared based on the marks obtained by the students in the subject component out of total 400 marks under Part-III in Higher Secondary examination. Eligibility of students for admission UG Courses in the colleges shall be as per the eligibility norms and guidelines of the Universities concerned.

Age Limit For Admission

The upper age limit for admission to under graduate courses is 21 (Twenty-one Years) as on 1st July on every Academic Year.

Submitting The Application

Online Application duly filled in all respects should reach the Principal within 10 working days after publishing the results of the Plus Two Examination / UG Degree Examination and should be accomplished by Photo Copies of the following:

Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate / UG Degree and Mark Sheet  .

Transfer Certificate from the Institution where the student last studied.

Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.

Community Certificate .

Income Certificate

Blood Group certificate

Certificate for children of Ex-serviceman .

Certificate for physically handicapped candidates .

Games/ Sports / NCC/ NSS proficiency Certificates .

Two Stamp size photographs of the candidate are necessary one to be affixed on the application form and another for the Identity Card.

Note: Sports person who have won inter- district and state level competitions must attach supporting evidence along with the application.

As the original certificates will not be returned before the completion of the course, applicants are advised to take sufficient number of attested copies of the same before admission.

Interview

The list of students selected for interview will be put on the Notice Board and college website. The applicant, selected for Interview, should bring his / her parent at the time of Interview. All original certificates and marksheets should be produced at the time of interview failing which they for not eligible for admission.

Marks Verification

Admission is subject to verification of mark statements by the Director of Govt. Examinations and if the mark certificate is found to be bogus, admission is liable for cancellation besides criminal action being taken.

Payment Of Fees

At the time of admission, all students including fee concession holders except SC/ST Candidates, should pay the first instalment of the tuition, science and special fees. A Student who leaves after he/she is admitted, will have to pay the fees for the full year before he/she gets back his/her certificates

The placement cell at the Lord Jagannath College of Engineering and Technology has officers, counselors, and staff members along with class representatives working together to give guidance to students. It provides proper guidance about industry-driven skills required to the students for getting a job in reputed companies as well as counseling. 

It organizes many campus interviews so that students can get them immediately after the completion of their degree.

Basic Information About The Training & Placement

All UG, PG & M.Phil. aided BC, MBC, and BCM students are eligible. There is no income limit for the scholarship to U.G. Degree students. The Government of TamilNadu has launched Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme to enhance the enrolment ratio of girls from Government schools to Higher Education Institutions. Through this scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 1000/month will be provided to the girls till their completion of the UG degree. The incentive amount under this scheme will be disbursed directly into the student’s Bank Account.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Language Lab:

The Language Laboratory started functioning in 2008. This computer-aided lab helps the students to develop their communication skills. Training can be given to all of the college students in a phased manner.

Library:

A library is a repository of knowledge. It aids in the teaching and learning processes by providing reading materials. It does, in fact, pique the interest of a non-reader in reading. Reading is a fundamental tool for living a fulfilling life. The primary goal of our library is to provide information services and provide users with access to print and electronic resources in order to meet the information needs of the college community. Research facilities are provided to the research scholars, who are doing research at various colleges and universities. All the users of the library are given free and open access. Strict silence has to be maintained withinside the library and study room.

Sports:

The College is equipped with sufficient sports facilities for indoor and outdoor games. Indoor games include Badminton, Table-Tennis, and Chess and outdoor games include cricket, football, handball, Kho-Kho, kabaddi, volleyball, etc. The Sports equipment/kits are issued to the scholars for exercise classes and throughout tournaments. Inter-branch Tournaments are carried out in diverse video games annually.
