About N.M.S.S.V.C

The golden pages of history witnessed an educational revolution in the year 1993 with the inception of N.M.S.Sermathai Vasan College for women, by Nadar Mahajana Sangam with a mission to uplift the educational status of women in and around madurai. The college was named after the benevolent philanthropist Thiru. V.G.Vasan, and Thirumathi Sermathai Vasan, who believed the empowerment of women is through knowledge and economic independence. The hand that rocks the cradle can rock the world is the vision of V.P.R. Gangaram Durairaj, the founder of the college. The college is presently run by Nadar mahajana sangam, and hails its preeminent status among several educational institutions run by the Nadar Mahajana Sangam by providing quality and task based learning environment. The college is housed at the outskirts of madurai in a serene and spacious environment and permanently affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University.

A thousand mile journey starts with a single step; the college takes its first step with an intake of 100 students, 3 departments and 7 members of the faculty. At present the college has 1660 students offering wide array of 12 UG academic courses and 6 PG courses. This Himalayan development is due to the strength of the diligent and compendious faculty of the college which rises to 86 teaching and 25 non teaching staff. To update the students with the latest global scenario the college has a stellar library separately housed with reading rooms and E-learning facility. The library has volume of books and also subscribes to national and international journals. Apart from the regular academic courses, the college also offers university diploma certificate courses and institutional certificate courses to mould the students competent enough to succeed in the survival of the fittest global work culture.The college acts as a catalyst to limelight the hidden talents of the students by having 18 clubs apart from the regular NCC, NSS, YRC and RRC. The college trains the students professionally by offering vocational courses like fashion designing, quilling and typewriting, physically by offering martial arts like karate (Taekwondo). In addition to the teaching of university curriculum, the college strives to promote culture, discipline, punctuality, honesty and patriotism.

The Placement Cell acts as interface between institute and companies and maintains symbiotic, vibrant and purposeful relationship with industries across the country as a part of the efforts to develop and strengthen the relationship with the corporate world to place Under Graduate students in prestigious organizations. The Placement cell also attempts to keep the students informed about potential job opportunities and guide them from time to time. Girls Hostel
The college has a Hostel equipped with a good hostel facility for 500 girls and these are close to the academic block on the campus itself.

Library
The college has a library that is the heart of the institution. It is to promote sharing of resources by collecting, storing, and disseminating information and by offering computerized services to the users.

Laboratories
The college has a laboratory that is left open for the students with additional facilities to carry out innovative project work apart from regular practical classes.

Auditorium
The college has provided with 2 conference halls. Each hall has a seating capacity of 500 members.

Cafeteria
The college Canteen functions mostly for the beneficiary of students. Amiable, hygienic and delicious foods are available in the canteen. Lunch, Snacks, tea, coffee, and coll drinks are provided at a subsidized rate.

Medical/Hospital
The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.

I.T Infrastructure
The college has a having 7 fully equipped Computer Labs. Over 40 spacious computers are available in each Computer Lab with the latest configurations. All the computer systems are connected by LAN for the benefit of students.

Gym
The college has a Gym facility for the students.

Sports
The college has a Physical Education that not only enables a person to build up her physique. But also makes one healthy, cheerful and wise. It is an integral part of the college. The college has done commendably well in the field of sports and games both inside and outside Madurai. the college has participated in the Madurai Kamaraj University Intercollegiate tournaments in Chess, Badminton, Volleyball, Kho –Kho, Kabaddi, Ball Badminton, Boxing, Weight lifting, and Track and Field events.

Alumni Associations
The college has good networking for the alumni association.

Guest Room/Waiting Room
The college has guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.

Transport Facility

The college has an Apart from that 8 PRC (Ladies special) buses Ply from Arappalayam, Thirumangalam, Periyar, Anuppanadi, Anna bus stand. The transport fleet consists of 10 buses with extensive coverage in all directions. Even though the college is on the outskirts of Madurai city, The management renders the best transport facility. A nominal Transport fee will be charged for the students who avail of the transport facility.
