NTR College of Veterinary Sciences is a premier government-owned Institute, founded in 1997.  It is one of the most reputed Government veterinary colleges in Gannavaram, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh.  Though initially established by Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, it is presently a constituent college of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati since the inception of the university in 2006.  

 

The NTR College of Veterinary Science has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is affiliated with Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVUU) Tirupati.  The College is approved by The Veterinary Council of India (VCI).

 

The college offers UG - Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSC&AH), PG -Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) and PhD - Doctor of Philosophy in Faculty of Veterinary Science.  The eligibility for UG program is based on counselling conducted by ANGRAU with the merit in A.P EAMCET.  The PG program requires a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry from SVVU/ANGRAU or from an institution accredited by ICAR/VCI.  For admission to PhD program the candidate needs a Master’s degree in the respective/related subject from SVVU/ANGRAU or from an institution accredited by ICAR.  At present, the intake of undergraduate students is 75, including 15% students nominated by the Veterinary Council of India based on NEET ranking. The intake of Postgraduate and Ph.D. students will be determined by the Academic Council of SVVU every year.


The college provides Facilities and Faculty strength as per the Standards of Veterinary Council of India.  The Facilities available          includes Hostel, Gym, Cafeteria, Sports & Games, Library, Conference Hall, Computer Center, Guest House, Medical Facilities, and Various Extra-Curricular activities like Cultural, Social, and Literary Clubs/Activities, NCC, NSS, are organized through Professional Societies, Activity Clubs and Hobby Clubs.  Music, Dance, Arts and Crafts, Folk Songs and Drama events and competitions are held besides other personality development contests.

 

The NTR College of Veterinary Science organizes regular training to the field veterinarians and interacts with farmers to design its research directives. Also supplies superior germ plasma to the farmers under various RKVY schemes as per the mandate.  The Veterinary Clinical Complex serves as referral hospital in the region of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and possesses state-of-art facilities for treating both livestock and companion animals.

Admission Process

Admission process:
Eligibility for BVSc & AH:
A pass in two years Intermediate Examination conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh or any other Examination recognized as equivalent thereto by the University or Intermediate Board with the following subjectsmainly. 1) Physics 2) Chemistry 3) Biology 4) English. A candidate under general category for admission to the BVSc & AH degree course must have passed in each of the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and obtained 50% marks in aggregate of these subjects, at the qualifying examination. In respect of candidates belonging to the Scheduled castes / the scheduled tribes or other special category students as specified by the Government from time to time shall be 5% less than that prescribed for general category (i.e., 47.5%). The students who are educated abroad seeking admissions in veterinary colleges should have passed the subjects of physics, chemistry, biology and English up to the 12th standard level with 50% marks in aggregate of these subjectsSponsored candidates shall have to quality the admission procedures as laid down for the students under general category. Admission of candidates to Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry degree course under bilateral exchange programme shall be regulated by Veterinary Council of India or on recommendation of Government of India. 15% of the total number of seats of each recognized Veterinary college which is included in the First Schedule of the Act shall be reserved and filled on an all India basis through common entrance examination and seats for the candidates belonging to schedule caste or
schedule tribes or Physically handicapped or other backward classes against said 15% quota of Veterinary council of India shall be reserved to be filled up as per Government of India Policy The Candidates selected through this examination shall be admitted in various recognized veterinary colleges as per the eligibility criteria prescribed in these regulations only and the last date for reporting of these candidates to the allotted
University or Veterinary Institution shall be 15th September of that year irrespective of the closing date of admission of that University or Veterinary Institution for that year, if earlier, the vacant seats may be filled by the veterinary college or university by 30th September which shall be the final cut-off date for the admission and thereafter no admission shall be made. Unfilled VCI Quota seats shall be filled by University based on marks obtained by the candidates in the EAMCET / as prescribed by state government in their respective local areas from out of the merit lists prepared for this
purpose based on merit, presidential order, region and social status. After the final admissions, each Veterinary college shall submit the details of the
students admitted in the first professional of BVSc and AH programme and similarly the list of students who pass out shall also be submitted to the Veterinary Council of India. Criteria for selection: The selection of candidates for all the seats except those reserved for VCI quota shall be made on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the EAMCET in their respective local areas from out of the merit lists prepared for
this purpose. The candidates will be selected based on merit, presidential order, region and social status. Twenty five percent (25%) seats shall be reserved for candidates of all social categories coming from families of Agriculturists (Farmers) owning a
minimum of 1 acre of Agricultural land either in the name of the parents or in the name of the candidates who have studied for a minimum of 4 years in the schools located in Non Municipal areas. Ten percent of seats over and above the total number of seats
are allotted to candidates belonging to EWS category. Age: He / She should have completed minimum age of 17 years and not crossed the
maximum age of 22 years as on the 31st December of that year of his or her admission to the 1st year of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry course and maximum age shall be 25 years in respect of scheduled caste or scheduled tribes and 27 years for Physically Challenged candidates.
