About
Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital (PMPMCH) is located in Talcher city, Angul district, Odisha, India. It is a government medical college and hospital established in 2021. The project was developed with the support of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, under its CSR initiative in partnership with the Government of Odisha. The institution was named after Pabitra Mohan Pradhan, a noted freedom fighter and former Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha. The main goal of the college is to provide quality medical education and improve healthcare facilities for people in the Talcher and Angul regions.
The college is situated in Talcher, Angul district, Odisha. The attached hospital was earlier known as Nehru Shatabdi Hospital and was renamed Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Government Hospital in December 2023. The project includes a 500 bed teaching hospital built on around 20 acres of land. The total cost of the project is approximately 493 crore rupees. The campus is designed to include academic blocks, hostels, residential quarters, and modern medical facilities, making it easily accessible from the main city and nearby transport links.
Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital is affiliated with the Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS). It has been approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for an annual intake of 100 MBBS seats starting from the academic year 2025-26. The institution is recognized as a government medical college under Indian medical education standards. As a new college, it does not yet feature in national ranking lists, but its development marks an important step in expanding medical education in Odisha.
The institution consists of a single main campus that houses the medical college and its teaching hospital. Currently, it offers only the MBBS program, and new departments in pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical areas are being established. Faculty recruitment is ongoing as per NMC guidelines to ensure quality education and training for future students.
The main course offered is the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with 100 seats. Admission is through the NEET UG examination conducted nationally. Eligibility follows standard MBBS norms such as completion of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, along with a valid NEET score. Information on postgraduate, diploma, or paramedical courses and scholarships has not yet been released as the institution is still in its early phase.
The infrastructure includes a 330 bed hospital which will expand to 500 beds. Facilities such as lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, hostels, and staff quarters are under construction. The hospital is well equipped for clinical training and community healthcare services. The project has been implemented with the financial and logistical support of MCL under its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Since this is a newly established college, placement information is not available yet. However, being a government medical college with its own teaching hospital, students will receive internship training and practical exposure within the hospital premises after completing their academic studies.
In conclusion, Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital is a newly established government institution aimed at improving medical education and healthcare services in Odisha. With 100 MBBS seats and a modern hospital setup, it represents a significant development for the region. Though it is still in its formative years, the strong support from the Government of Odisha and MCL gives it great potential to grow into a leading medical education and healthcare institution in the coming years.
