Ever since its birth on that warm morning of July 1966, Providence College for Women, has endeavored to take giant strides of progress under the able leadership of the Management, committed Principals and their team of staff. The institution is managed and run by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes, a Catholic minority institution registered under the Nilgiris St. Joseph's Sisters Society. The institution was started for the benefit of higher education of the young women and others of the locality and the Catholic community, in addition it opens wide its arms to others from far and wide without distinction of caste or creed. The College celebrated its Golden Jubilee during the year 2015-2016. Providence College nestles in a sprawling emerald green campus in the suburbs of the rustic town of Coonoor situated about six km, en route the Kotagiri-Coonoor Road way. The College also provides resident students with hostel facilities. The hostel is a place where they are cared for and loved and made to feel at home.

Placement Experience: Companies like HP, Amazon, Mobius 365, TCS etc have been there to hire good talents who have good communication skills. Companies would offer from 2 lacs pa- 6 lacs pa. There have been companies from hospitality, food and beverage, manufacturing industry as well.

Scholarship Amount: Rs. 5000 per annum for UG and PG students and maintenance allowance of Rs. 570/- per month for Hosteller & Rs. 300/- per month for Day Scholar.

Library

Providence College library was established in 1984. Library is a well stocked facility with
carpet area 1550 sq. meters, aiming at promoting and winding stimulating critical and
analytical thinking through wide collection of books and e- resources.
The Library has materials in a variety of formats to support courses and programs as
well as materials which are essential to promote active research. In addition to the text
books and reference books, Back volumes, thesis and project reports, National and
International Journals, E-journals and E-databases are also available for all students
and researchers. Holding Institutional membership in INFLIBNET N-LIST, NDL, and
Shodhganga – (Reservoir of Indian thesis), further strengthen the research exposure.
Digital Library and journal access through intranet facilities is also available for the
students.
The library uses indigenous Automation Software for its operations; and offers
OPACservice The open access system with DDC classification system with stack
guidesenables easy to choose the required books.
The central library provides Online information services like NPTEL (National
Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), and membership with
NDL(National Digital Library) British council library, and Inflibnet N-List. Our
library also has OPAC with an internet service for the benefit of students and
faculty. Reprography and document scanning facility is also made available
within the library for its effective function.
