ABOUT US

Our College was started in a humble beginning in Tiruvarur in July, 1999 when there was no exclusive women’s college here. Girl students of this region were denied get higher education in the absence of colleges exclusively for women. Our college was established to fill up this vacuum and to provide better opportunity for higher education to girl students from villages and semi-urban areas. Our college has always been secular in its ambitions, activities and approach. The college has grown up in value, vision and volume in the past 21 years and reflects our country’s ideological identity of unity in diversity. Every student is made to understand that education is not a privilege but a basic right.

The whole world has been terribly affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic and the student community in specific education become in accessible. We have bridged the gap by quickly adapting the technology. I proudly say “we are one among the first movers” adapting the digitalized platform(Zoom, Google Meet)from July 2021 we have partnered with Microsoft teams for online classes-Cutting edge technology software for online classes. Many students entering the college come from villages are first generation in their respective agricultural families. It is for this reason we are providing cost affordable high standard education. Every family in this region has some link or other with R.A.C. which in term helped to fulfill the mission of the Founders to uplift the rural girl students from literary backwardness and isolation and to join the main stream in the nation building.

Students are given parental protection, care and security at the college campus. This college functions in a spacious area, well connected with the main arteries of Tiruvarur the abode of trinity of carnatic music, easily accessible by students. The college campus is located in a panoramic, conducive and safe environment, more suitable for girl students to assemble and study. For the convenience of girl students from remote villages, the college provides comfortable bus facility in different routes within a radius 40 km.

Spacious class rooms, auditorium, well equipped library, prayer hall, vast play-ground are very helpful to girl students. Frequent seminars are conducted for the students to have inter-collegiate participation. Every year students participate in industrial visits. Well-equipped laboratory for the departments of Computer, Bio-chemistry, Physics, Nutrition & Dietetics, D.M.L.T, and Fashion Technology are available. Language Lab helps students with more exposure in learning through visual and audio system.

Our library hall with large number of books, journals, magazines, and newspapers, is well utilized by students and staff.

The college provides both arts and science courses in twelve disciplines for U.G. students, and eight post graduate courses with M.B.A., Research courses, are also available in M. Phil (Bio-Chemistry)., M, Phil (Commerce)., M. Phil (Tamil) and Ph.D. research courses in Commerce and Bio-Chemistry.

Periodical National and International level seminars are conducted every year, inviting external resource persons. For the benefit of new students bridge course is conducted every year. We have also provided Guest lecture through external resource persons, leadership training, skill development programmes for both faculty and students separately.

Bio Chemistry students are encouraged to cultivate organic vegetables and herbal plants to gain practical knowledge.

No capitation fee is collected from the students or parents in any manner. Ragging is strictly prohibited.

Our college alumini meet is always well attended with great admiration. College Union leaders are elected every year by all students only through secret balloting in a very cordial and democratic manner.

Our students are provided greater opportunity to acquire leadership quality and encouraged active participation in extracurricular activities in civic, cultural, social and moral fiber of the society. Our students have learned the culture of co-existing as a family, without discrimination of caste, creed, race, religion in the bond of friendship, fellowship tied with mutual respect through value based education and support secular ideals of our country.

Admission :

A Pass in the higher secondary, or any other examination conducted by the state government or any other statutory board after 12 years of study and recognized as equivalent to the higher secondary examination in Tamil Nadu.
Students from other states will be considered for admission, only if they produce eligibility certificate from Bharathidasan University.
Students from other countries will be considered for admission, only if they obtain eligibility certificate from university and also if they have provisional student visa endorsed on their passport.

Students called for interview shall attend with her parents and produce the following
The interview card.
Recently taken stamp size photograph (three copies).
Mark Sheet in original of qualifying examination with 4 Xerox copies.
Transfer certificate-Original with a Xerox copy.
Conduct certificate-original with a Xerox copy.
Community certificate for SC, ST, BC, MBC students-original with three Xerox copies.
Aadhar card-Xerox copy.

Completed application form shall be submitted at the college office in person or by registered post with acknowledgement card not later than 7 days from the date of publication of the result.
For application delivered in person, acknowledgement from the college office should be obtained.
No enclosures with the application form.
Admissions to any course will be confirmed only after an interview and an eligibility verified.
Students selected for an interview shall comply with all conditions mentioned in the interview letter.
At the time of interview, mark sheet in original, and all other certificates, shall be produced.
Students selected for admission shall pay the prescribed fee on or before the date mentioned in the admission card.If fee are not paid on time, the student will forfeit her seat.
Fees paid once will not be refunded.
Students should take a sufficient number of attested copies of mark sheets of their qualifying examination before surrendering the originals to the college on admission.
Students should take care and ensure that they furnish true and correct information and marks in the application form. Later on the marks or any other information furnished in the application form is found to be incorrect, altered or bogus, the student shall forfeit her admission, no matter at what stage of the course she will be studying at that time.

5. CENTRAL SECTOR SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME:

Eligible for students of all religions (Hindu, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis))

UG first year students only are eligible for Fresh Scholarship.

UG Second year, Third year and PG first year, Second year students are eligible for Renewals only

Students who secured 80% and above marks in Higher Secondary examinations can apply for this scholarship

Annual Income ceiling is Rs.8,00,000/- (Rupees Eight Lakhs Only)

6. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENT WITH DISABILITIES:

Students with Disabilities with 40% (Disability Percentage) and above and with valid certificate from government authority can apply for this scholarship

7. PG RANK HOLDER SCHOLARSHIP:

The First and Second Rank holders (University Rank) at undergraduate level and admitted in any Postgraduate Course would be awarded the scholarship.

8. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR EDUCATION OF THE WARDS OF BEEDI/CINE/IOMC/LSDM WORKERS – POST-MATRIC :

Eligible for students of all religions (Hindu, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis)

Either of the parents of the students should be Beedi, Iron Ore Manganese & Chrome Ore Mines, Limestone & Dolomite Mines, Cine worker with atleast six months service.

The First and Second Rank holders (University Rank) at undergraduate level and admitted in any Postgraduate Course would be awarded the scholarship.

The college has a girls' hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

The library is the repository of knowledge. RA  College for Women maintains an exceptionally rich Central library equipped with all possible sources of information. The wisdom of student and teacher are to be enhanced by information regarding recent development and humanities, research. The library includes books stakes, Reading sections, Circulation, and Periodical sections.

Auditorium

The college has an auditorium with a seating capacity of around 1500. The auditorium is a regular venue for conferences, workshops, and seminars. It also provides plenty of opportunities for our staff and students to exhibit their talents in various activities.

The college has a departmental-based laboratory facility for the students.

TRANSPORT FACILITIES :
The College provides transport facility for the women students at nominal rates. About 14 college buses help the students to commute to the college from various places in the Tiruvarur City. We have installed GPS, Speed Limiters and Wi-Fi enabled cameras in all buses for the safety of the students. All the buses reach the campus at 09:10 a.m. so that students get ready to attend the classes at 09.30 a.m. The buses leave the campus at 04:00 p.m.
