Rajalakshmi Engineering College, also referred to as REC, is a popular and prestigious Autonomous Institution affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. It was established in the year 1997 under the aegis of the Rajalakshmi Educational Trust, under approval of Anna University, Chennai. The College is accredited by the NAAC with and A++ Grade. Additionally, REC is approved by the AICTE and the NBA. The Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt of India has recognized the institute as a Scientific and Research Industrial Organization (SIRO). REC is ISO certified and holds the 86th Rank in the NIRF Rankings under the Engineering Category.The college has also secured 12(b) status from UGC. Anna University, Chennai has granted Permanent Affiliation for 10 UG courses The college has made rapid progress since its inception, achieving excel in Engineering Education, Research and Development.

REC is located on a sprawling and eco friendly campus size of 50 Acres of which 23 Acres is the currently constructed area. The College is situated on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway close to SIPCOT Industrial Park at Mevalurkuppam, Thandalam, Chennai.

REC has a very vast and interesting selection of courses to offer. It has a total of 19 UG programs including 12 B.E and 7 B,Tech options. The college also has 9 PG options consisting 6 M.E, 2 M.Tech and 1 MBA course. Apart from these the college has 8 different disciplines for Ph.D programs

The campus has many facilities as part of its state of the art and world class infrastructure. Over 8 Lac Sft include Smart Classrooms, Air Conditioned Laboratories, and Workshops.

A Tech lounge which hosts more than 700 computers. In addition to this, the Academic Science Block has a computer facility with 120 computers exclusively for first-year students. A latest and updated Library which has an open-access policy. A Health Center which offers free medical care to faculty, employees, and students. Student Hostels within the campus provide Gym facilities for both boys and girls apart from spacious and airy shared and independent rooms. In total, Outdoor facilities alone account for almost 3 Lacs square feet

REC has a very active and effective Placement Cell for the benefit of the students. Interestingly, the Placement Cell is headed by a former Faculty who is in a better position to relate with the students and the inputs needed by them to prepare them better.

The Training and Placement Cell is headed by Prof. I. Philip Praveen. Starting his career as a Lecturer in the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department of REC, in the year 1998, he carved a niche for himself as an exemplary teacher with a passion for making the students employable by the Industry. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department. Working along senior Professors, he played a key role in the conceptualization and design of a path breaking program called "Residential Employability Training Camp". The roll out of this program led to a phenomenal increase in the number of students placed in Campus Recruitments.

His ability to network with Industries and other Professional societies led to the Institution entering into MoUs with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and also becoming members of Education Promotion Society of India (EPSI), Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD), National Association of Software Companies (NASSCOM), ICT Academy etc.

The College library is located in a spacious new building of 9000 Sq. ft. The library is open to students and staff members from 7.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on all working days. The library has a rich collection of around 52,600 volumes of text books, reference books, national and international journals in all branches of Engineering, Science, Technology, Management and General Studies, and the collection is ever increasing. The books are classified according to Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. Open access system is followed in the library.The college is equipped with a fully functional vegetarian canteen to serve hygienically prepared food to the staff and students. A subsidized mess is also operative in the campus. A separate mess for boys has been provided.

Our college has a dedicated internet lab working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We provide free internet access to our students. We have 2155 Mbps 1:1 dedicated leased line internet connectivity (2 Gbps from Jio and 155 Mbps from Vodafone Idea). The internet can be accessed from more than 2000 computers. All the departments have internet connectivity.The Cyberoam 300ING firewall has been deployed for handling enhanced load on Network and Applications catering to academic and Administrative processes, thereby providing a secure campus.

Transport

A full fledged Transport department functions in the college with buses to provide transport facility to students and staff from various places. This service is offered ensuring a hassle-free and safe transportation.The College runs 85 buses for providing transport facility to students from various places in the city. The number of buses will be increased corresponding to the increase in the intake of students.
