Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education & Research (RIVER), formerly known as RAGACOVAS, is a leading public veterinary institute in Kurumbapet, Puducherry. Admission Process

Eligibility

UG Admission (BVSc & AH)

• Must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Zoology / Biology / Biotechnology.
• Minimum marks: 50% aggregate in those subjects for General category; 40% for OBC/MBC/BCM/EBC/BT/SC/ST. 
• For Self-Supporting (National) & NRI seats, qualified in NEET-UG 2025 is required.

Seat Distribution & Categories Total intake is 100 seats (2025-26) with division roughly as follows:

• Government Quota (Puducherry domiciles): 47 seats
• Self-Supporting (Puducherry domiciles): 10 seats
• Self-Supporting (National): 22 seats
• NRI / Wards of NRI Parents: 4 seats
• Foreign Nationals: 2 seats All-India Quota (VCI – 15%): 15 seats

Selection Basis

• For Puducherry domiciles under Govt quota & self-supporting (Puducherry): based on marks in 10+2 (Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Zoology) in qualifying exam.
• For National / NRI / All-India / VCI quota categories: based on NEET-UG All India Rank.

Application / Counselling Process

Application through CENTAC (Centralised Admission Committee), Puducherry:

• All categories except VCI‐15% seats submit application via CENTAC. River University
• Fill details, pay application fees, provide required documents. River University
• There is a deadline to apply. (E.g. Self-supporting Puducherry had last date ~ 7th June 2025) for 2025-26.

Merit lists / Allotment:

• For Puducherry quota: merit list based on 10+2 marks in required subjects. River University
• For National/NEET categories: NEET rank used.

Provisional Allotment order:

• Once your seat is allotted by CENTAC (or by VCI for the All-India quota), you’ll receive a provisional allotment order.

Reporting to RIVER:

• You must physically (or as per instructions) report to RIVER by the date specified in the allotment order. Bring original documents and complete admission formalities.

PG Admission (MVSc)

Eligibility

• Must have a BVSc & AH degree recognized by VCI. 
• Minimum OGPA (grade / marks) of 6.0/10.0 (or equivalent) for general category; 5.5 for SC/ST.
• Often there is an age limit (for example, not completed 35 years as of a certain date), with relaxations for reserved categories.

Selection Process

• There is a PG Entrance Examination conducted by RIVER. 
• Admission criteria is a combination of academic performance (OGPA in BVSc) + PG Entrance Exam score, often with weightage (for e.g. 80% for academic + 20% for entrance exam) for selection. 
• Candidates must secure a minimum combined score (for example at least 50%) in the OGPA + PG entrance exam to be eligible.

Application & Counselling

• Watch for notification / brochure from RIVER about PG admissions. It announces the major fields, seat matrix, application dates. 
• Download application from institute website, fill it, attach required documents. 
• If employed, may need No Objection Certificate from employer. 
• Appear for entrance exam on the date given. River University RIVER will publish merit list (based on weighted OGPA + Entrance exam marks). 
• After selection, report to institute, complete fee payment and document verification.

Scholarship

Post-Matric Scholarship to Scheduled Castes (SC), Puducherry

• Eligibility: SC students who are residents of Puducherry (income ceiling applies).
• Benefit: Covers admissible fees fixed by Fee Committee, reimbursed by institution + maintenance allowance for hostellers/day scholars.

Scholarship for Differently Abled Persons (Puducherry)

• Eligibility: Students with ≥40% disability, residents of Puducherry, income limit (~₹75,000 per annum).
• Benefit: Fixed amount per year based on level of study (UG/PG/Professional courses).
