OUR HISTORY

R.A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai has had a long history, which commenced with the freedom struggle of India. The visionaries of that time realized that they should start an institution which would inculcate the indigenous values and have the thrust of social and cultural value system that are typical to the grand heritage of our country.

In August 1940, the trust known as 'Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali', Pune, made an application to the Bombay University for permission to start a Commerce College. The Industrialist and Philanthropist and a visionary, Seth Ramdeoji Anandilal Podar was deeply interested in the cause of education. He wished to build an institution in the memory of his brother Ramniranjan Anandialal Podar who had died at a young age. At the cost of Rs.1,50,000/- he constructed the building that houses the college today, and gifted it to the S.P. Mandali on the 7th of February 1941.

The Senate of Bombay University granted permission to start the College initially for a period of two years, with 150 students on its rolls. The College building with its famed clock tower was handed over by Seth Ramdeoji Anandilal Podar to the S.P. Mandali. Barrister M.R. Jayankar inaugurated the college building formally. The college was named "Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce". The Mandali has been rendering notable service under its motto of unflinchingly carrying out the mission undertaken and has kept up its well- defined objectives. The objectives in regard to Commerce education has been to extend popular and reasonably affordable higher education in Maharashtra and to develop an institution that would impart appropriate education both in Commerce and Economics.

The institution first started the B. Com. Degree course in 1942 and the word Economics was added to the name of the College. It has now become 'Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics'. The College received permanent affiliation from the University of Mumbai on 17th August, 1950.

Our College has been a nurturing ground for aspiring Entrepreneurs for the last several decades. This year brought an initiative to institutionalise the efforts in this direction by setting up an Incubation Center with the help of RUSA ( Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan ).This move aims to nurture the ideation process and hand hold entrepreneurs to be on their own. With our alumni network, this initiative is set to reach greater heights in the years to come.

This year, Podar has created history in the world of higher education by offering obeisance to the ‘Temple of Learning’ which is also known as the R.A.Podar College of Commerce and Economics (Autonomous). The Management, Staff and students (past and present) commemorated the academic excellence offered by the institute for the last 80 plus years. This ‘krutanyata’(‘thanksgiving’) under the title ‘Confluence of Stakeholders’ (Sahastra Chandra Darshan) made our esteemed institution carve a new dimension in the history of Educational Institutions across borders. The ceremony was celebrated with the required cultural fervor, with 81 diyas by the college student leader, along with more than 160 dignitaries, including the President, Vice President, Chairman, Managing (Managing Council) Vice Chairman (Managing Council), CDC Chairman, and who’s who from the alumni and neighborhood, conducting ‘Aukhan’ to our temple of learning. The well-lit campus wore a completely vibrant look, which gave a wonderful emotional filling to the drained minds due to COVID 19.

The campus vibrated with the influx of new talent, diverse faculty, creating an ambience for the all-round development of everyone connected.

The year no doubt added yet another leaf and sustained the vision and mission of our founders and Parent body Shikashan Prasarak Mandali. While we dedicate yet another successful year at the feet of our founders we look forward to the future to get aligned with the NEP (2020) and contribute our might to the nation building process by providing value based, responsible human resources.

ADMISSION PROCESS:

RA Podar College of Commerce and Economics laid its foundation in the year 1941. Located in the city of Mumbai, the college has acquired permanent affiliation with University of Mumbai. The college offers admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as B.Com, BMS, M.Com and Diploma in Management Studies (DMS).

• The admission and selection criteria of the Podar College are established strictly as per the norms of University of Mumbai.
• Eligible candidates applying to any UG or PG course shall be allotted admission solely on merit following the reservation policy of Government of Maharashtra.
• To be eligible for admission to first-year degree courses, a candidate should have pass 10+2 examination or its equivalent from any stream.
• Application to UG courses can be made after the declaration of 10+2 examination result in the State of Maharashtra.
• For Master’s program, candidates need to have a bachelor’s degree in the concerned or relevant subject from University of Mumbai or any other recognized University.
• Applications filed through University of Mumbai online admission portal are accepted at the college.

Podar College UG Admission 2023

The College offers admission to degree courses of Bachelor’s degree of Management Studies (BMS) and B.Com in three specializations at UG level. The courses have affiliation to University of Mumbai and are self-financed by the college. The selection of the courses shall be affected by merit as per marks secured in 10+2 qualifying examination from ICSE or any other recognized board. Candidates applying from any other board than state of Maharashtra shall obtain Eligibility certificate from Bombay Divisional Board Office at Vashi. Candidates from any stream are eligible to apply.

Podar College Application Process 2023

The College shall accept application forms filled through Mumbai University Online Admission Portal. The step by step to apply for a course shall be as explained below:

• Visit the official website of the university.
• Log in to the Online Admission Portal of the University and apply under the “Pre- Admission Online Registration”.
• “Apply Online” by filling up the registration form.
• A verification code and link is sent to the mobile number provided by the candidate as a confirmation to registration.
• Log in again with the same verification code and proceed to fill up the online application form.
• Upload a passport size coloured photograph of the requisite resolution.
• A registration processing fee is to be paid via Demand Draft issued in favour of “The Finance and Accounts Officer, University of Mumbai” payable at Mumbai.
• Submit the print of application form along with necessary enclosures in the college as per the schedule.

• Original School Leaving Certificate
• Original SSC/ ICSE or any other equivalent examination mark-sheet
• One Photocopy of SSC/ ICSE or any equivalent examination mark-sheet

Scholarships and Freeships

The college provides scholarships for merit holders and economically weak students. ANGC scholarships are given to the open category students. The College provides scholarships to different sections of students such as reserved category, economically backward, merit holders and advanced learners through various government and corporate agencies.
