SAMS Group of Educational Institutions had a humble beginning.   Southern Academy of Maritime Studies (SAMS), a self-financing Institute was born in the year 1996, out of an un-diminishing, futuristic vision of a Mariner, Mr. M. Karthikeyan who is the Chairman and Promoter of Southern Group of Companies.  He is a Commerce graduate with Post-graduation in Business Management and has done a Law degree and  is also a qualified Marine Radio Officer.  He has worked with prestigious institutions like Essar Ship Management Services; Univan Ship Management Company, Hong Kong; Blue Marine Ship Management and Trading Services; Chettinad Ship Management Services.  He was also involved in the implementation of ISM Audit activities in all UNIVAN and Chettinad vessels.  He is ably assisted by a team of Professionals and Faculty to run the business.

In the beginning SAMS was offering only a few STCW Marine Courses from its Royapuram hamlet.  Subsequently SAMS has spread its wings in different directions, both in the field of eEducation and also in other business ventures, the result of which are the following Educational Institutions:

Started in 2006, SAMS College of Engineering and Technology has carved a niche for itself and emerged as one of the reputed institutes in the Education and Training arena through continuous evaluation, persistent efforts, uncompromising values and integrity.  The focus of SCET has always been to impart quality Education and Training at international standards to the aspiring.  Its initiatives have been oriented towards implementing a comprehensive range of programs aimed at the growing needs of the industry.

SAMS College of Engineering and Technology is set in a sprawling 14 acres of land at 82, Panapakkam, Tirupathi Road, Uthukottai Taluk, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.  Located in Panapakkam, an hour’s drive from Chennai, on the Chennai - Calcutta National Highway (NH 05), the campus is easily accessible by various modes of transport like road and rail.

The state-of-the-art SAMS College of Engineering and Technology, is Affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.  It is also approved by the D.G. Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India.  Recognized by the Government of India and coupled with formidable tie ups with reputed Universities, SCET has been providing a wide range of sponsorship and training opportunities for the aspiring professionals.  An ISO 9001-2015 Certified Training Academy, it has made rapid strides since it forayed in to Education and Training and in the process earned a due distinction of one of the leading institutes in India.  

SAMS College of Engineering and Technology offers various UG and PG Degree programs in the fields of Engineering and Technology as well as Management.  The Courses include B.E (in 6 disciplines), B.Tech (in 2 disciplines), and MBA Degrees.  SAMS believes in offering quality education at affordable cost to reach each and every student who aspires to make it big in his life.   Presently more than 400 students are admitted annually - intake capacity in various courses.

SCET constantly endeavours to bring quality maritime education and training programs that enhances the knowledge of students and serve the maritime industry.  The innovative idea of "Ship in Campus" , an alternative to ”On Board Training”, devised by D. G. of Shipping, Government of India, has been considered as boon by the maritime educational institutes that results in providing a live environment to the students.  In tune with its vision of enhancing maritime education and training, SAMS has entered in to an agreement with the Department of Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture, IIT, Kharagpur and are in the process of constructing “Ship in Campus" a fully functional live model ship in SAMS campus.

SCET Chennai has a well-equipped Placement cell which undertakes various activities of training and grooming of students in terms of conducting mock interviews, Group Discussion sessions, resume preparation etc.  Along with providing placement assistance to students, the Placement Cell also helps in managing industry interactions and industry relations.  The College also firmly believes in shaping the individual student into a full-fledged responsible citizen of the country.  In this endeavor, apart from academics, we train and shape the student in the areas of Communication, Soft Skills, Discipline, Character and other required Value Added Trainings.

SAMS College of Engineering and Technology has an active Alumni Association which is invited to make annual recommendations for the conferment of honorary degrees.   For the most part, these are awarded to alumni.   The SCET alumni are important stakeholders in the future development of the Institute and the views of the alumni community are valued and frequently sought by the executive committee.

Placement

The Training Department organizes campus interviews by inviting various companies for training of the student on board. It fulfills dual purposes, one for students securing their future career, another for the industry securing the best fresh talent available in the region to train and mould them for their long time need of the employees.

The cell undertakes various activities of training and grooming of students in terms of conducting mock interviews, Group Discussion sessions, resume preparation etc. Along with providing Ship Board Training assistance to students. Scholarship

The college offered there is no scholar ship. But the govt of tamilnadu offers a first graduation scholarship and loan facilities offered by the bank.
