Saranathan College of Engineering

The college was temporarily (approx. 2 years) located in the Seshasayee Institute of Technology.  Later thanks to the gracious permission from the Honorary Secretary and Correspondent of that Institution, Er. G. Sundaram, shifted it to its current sprawling 40 acre campus on the Chennai – Madurai Expressway at Venkateswara Nagar, Panjappur, Trichy, Tamil Nadu on 3rd January 2000 and was formally inaugurated on 19th October 2000, by “Peraasiriyar K Anbazhagan, the then Minister of Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. 

Saranathan College of Engineering is a self financing co-ed college approved by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.  It is accredited to NBA and IEI – Institute of Engineers, India.  It also has ranking by NIRF.

Saranathan College of Engineering has a current annual intake of 660 students for the 7 branches offered at the undergraduate level and 132 students for the 5 courses offered at the post-graduate level. The college offers BE/BTech, MBA, ME and PhD programs in various streams of Engineering and Management.

Besides a robust teaching pedagogy, Saranathan College of Engineering is also a leader in Research and Innovation.  Focus is given to activities beyond academics at the College, which is evident from its infrastructure, extracurricular activities and national & international collaborations. SCE campus infrastructure houses various blocks like Secretary Santhanam Block, RV Block & Kamaraj Block, Jagadguru Sri Jayebndra Saraswathi Block, Poojyashrr Rajaji Block, comprising of Classrooms, Tutorial rooms, Seminar Halls, Laboratories, Library, Conference Halls, Mechanical Workshops, Computer Center, Girls & Boys Hostel, Generator Room, Canteen, Shed, Security Room, Transportation, NSS, Youth Red Cross, Sports, Placement Cell, etc.

The college offers an ideal environment for the students to absorb and assimilate the top class technical education and professional training offered.  The Faculty with an outstanding academic background and sound conceptual knowledge of contemporary engineering studies and practices ably complete the process of converting the budding students into employable Technocrats.  A good number of the research-oriented faculty hold Ph.D degrees and many more are pursuing their Ph.D studies.

To enhance the employability of the students, the college supplements in-house as well as out-sourced courses in Personality and Soft Skills Training, Business English Certificate courses and CCNA courses are conducted as part of the syllabus.  The college also offers certification courses like Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) and Cloud Infrastructure and Systems (CIS) for additional personality enhancement of the students.  Leading IT companies and other reputed core companies organize placement drives at the college and hire students from this college.

Saranathan College of Engineering is one among the 50 institutions hand-picked by the Government of Tamil Nadu to run the Entrepreneurship Development Initiative which is matter of great pride. 

National Policy on Education

Educational policy and progress have been reviewed in the light of the goal of national development and priorities set from time to time. In its Resolution on the National Policy on Education in 1968, quality improvement and a planned and more equitable expansion of educational facilities and the need to focus on the education of girls were stressed.

About a decade and a half later, the National Policy on Education (NPE-1986) was formulated, which was further updated in 1992. The NPE 1986 provides for a comprehensive policy framework for the development of education upto the end of the century and a Plan of Action (POA) 1992, entrusting specific responsibilities for organizing, implementing and financing its proposals.

Candidates seeking admission to the B. E./B. Tech program are shortlisted based on the marks obtained by them in the last qualifying examination. They are shortlisted through TNEA single window counseling. TNEA counseling takes placed based on candidates' performance in the last qualifying examination.

The Placement Cell is an interface between the Corporate world and the students of SCE. It enables the students to make better and informed career choices. The Placement Cell invites industries to share their knowledge and experience with students through guest lectures, workshops, presentations and informal get-together. The Placement Cell also organizes the placement process including Summer training and Final placements. The Cell manages and facilitates on-campus recruitment processes including pre-placement presentations by potential employers to highlight the issues, expectations and professional opportunities, unique to the company and industry. Students of SCE have been placed in Domestic, Global and Public Sector Firms.The Training and Placement Cell takes care of the Campus Connect Programme.

Campus Connect is an Infosys Initiative. It is an Industry -Academic collaboration Program aimed at aligning the engineering students' skill to meet the industry needs. Infosys would be sharing with our college its training methodology courseware, student projects and other such learning resources used for their Foundation Program, that has been developed, practised and perfected by them over last several years. This will help to improve the quality and the employability of the students in the Indian IT enterprises & Organizations where SCE students are placed.

The College has a fleet of buses to facilitate the to and fro transport of students. A fleet of twenty five buses are operated from different parts of the neighbouring areas to bring the students and staff to the college premises in time. In addition, a number of state owned and private town and mofussil buses ply via the college and this place is easily accessible from Tiruchi Bus stand and Railway station. The Government of Tamilnadu has arranged an exclusive bus to ply between Mainguard gate and our college, both in the morning and evening.

Canteen

Canteen facilities with a dining room annexe are available at the Campus and quality vegetarian food is served during the college days.
Separate STD booth with Xerox facility and a Stationery Store are available for the benefit of students.
