Sengunthar College of Education, Tharamangalam was started in the year 2006-2007 to provide more trained teachers for the several new high schools in the rural areas and meet the shortage of trained teacher personnel. The management of Sengunthar Educational Board , Tharamangalam has ventured into running the college of education to offer quality teachers to the society. The teachers trained here will imbibe the culture and spiritual treasures of the land.

Sengunthar College of Education, Tharamangalam from its inception was affiliated to Periyar University, Salem. From the academic year 2008-2009 onwards, the college is affiliated to Tamilnadu Teachers Education University, Chennai. The college has been approved by Tamil Nadu Government and recognized by the NCTE to conduct B.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded 'B' Grade to the college effective from 3 January, 2013 for five years.

Sengunthar College of Education, Tharamangalam's emblem displays the Temple tower, Veena ( musical instrument ), and Lotus flower. Like the lofty Kailasanathar temple tower, the trainees of this institution will be majestic in thinking, fearless, and behave with good reputation. The veena is representative of seat of learning besides a deep interest of the trainees in fine arts to realize tranquility in life. Like the pure lotus flower unaffected by its surroundings, the trainees will shine with inspiration, friendliness, and a spirit of service.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates with at least fifty percent marks either in the Bachelor’s degree and/or in the Master’s degree in sciences/social sciences/humanity, Bachelors in Engineering or Technology with specialization in science and mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto, are eligible for admission to the program.

Admission Details
Admission Shall be Made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or in the entrance examination or any other selection process as per the policy of the state government/U.T. Administration and the university.
