ABOUT
Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering — commonly known as PDA College of Engineering (PDA‑COE) — is located in Gulbarga (Kalaburagi), Karnataka. The institute was established in 1958 by the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society (HKE Society), under the vision of its founder Mahadevappa Rampure. The college was founded with the mission to provide quality technical education and engineering training to youth of the region, especially from the Hyderabad‑Karnataka area, aiming to foster skilled professionals and support regional development through education.
PDA College is situated at Aiwan‑E‑Shahi Area, Station Road, Gulbarga – 585102. The campus spans about 71 acres, straddling either side of the Mumbai–Chennai railway track — surrounded by greenery, gardens, and a sprawling complex that supports academic buildings, student residences, recreational spaces, and open areas The college’s approach emphasizes a blend of technical education, research, and holistic growth in a green campus environment, balancing tradition and modernity.
PDA College of Engineering is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institute has been granted autonomous status since academic year 2007‑08, enabling it to set its own curriculum, conduct examinations and evaluations under a continuous internal evaluation system. Over decades, PDA‑COE has earned recognition for academic quality, and its courses are periodically accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The college is also selected under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), sponsored by the World Bank, which supports infrastructure and quality enhancement.
Starting with just three branches (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) and an initial intake of 120 students, PDA‑COE has now expanded significantly. Currently the institution offers 13 undergraduate courses, 10 postgraduate programmes, and supports several research centers across various engineering and technology disciplines. Departments include, but are not limited to: Civil Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Electrical & Electronics Engineering; Electronics & Communication; Computer Science & Engineering; Industrial & Production Engineering; Instrumentation Technology; Ceramic & Cement Technology; and more specialized streams. The faculty strength along with experienced staff enables teaching, research, and student mentoring across these faculties.
PDA‑COE offers a wide range of degree programmes — from undergraduate (B.E./B.Tech) to postgraduate (M.Tech, etc.), and doctorate / research in certain disciplines. Undergraduate programmes cover traditional branches (Civil, Mechanical, EEE, ECE, etc.) and specialized courses like Ceramic and Cement Technology — a rare offering and unique strength of the college. Admissions to undergraduate courses typically involve state or entrance examinations such as KCET / COMED‑K (for Karnataka), or applicable entrance criteria under VTU norms. For postgraduate programmes, admission may involve GATE / PG‑CET or institute-level criteria as per VTU regulations. The college also provides scholarships and financial assistance for meritorious and economically weaker students, as part of aided courses and government/state‑sponsored support, facilitating accessibility and inclusion.
PDA College’s campus infrastructure is well‑developed and supports both academic and extracurricular requirements. The institute features state-of-the-art laboratories, a fully‑equipped computer centre, departmental seminar halls, and a large central library which houses substantial volumes of technical and reference books. The campus is WiFi-enabled with high-speed internet connectivity which supports academic research and student projects. Additional amenities include a 1,000‑seat auditorium, a 200‑seat gallery hall, student activity centre, sports club, canteens, cooperative store, bank facility, power backup, and separate hostels for boys and girls. Hostel accommodation, recreational facilities, and campus amenities aim to ensure that students have a comfortable and conducive environment for both academic and personal development.
PDA College of Engineering maintains active industry interface and a dedicated training & placement mechanism to prepare students for professional careers. The institute organizes soft-skills development, technical workshops, and training in emerging technologies to improve employability, aligning curricula with industry needs. Over the years, many graduates have secured placements in reputed companies — especially in IT, software services, core engineering, manufacturing and consulting sectors. Internship opportunities and campus‑drives are arranged periodically, and research-oriented students benefit from industry collaborations and research projects under TEQIP or funded schemes This consistent emphasis on employability, skill‑development, and industry‑readiness has made PDA‑COE a trusted institution for engineering aspirants in Karnataka.
