Sethu Institute of Technology, the brainchild of its Founder & Chairman, Mr. S. Mohamed Jaleel, is an autonomous Institute established in 1995 by the zealous Sethu Educational Trust.  The Institute has been rendering its noble service to the sustained growth of the educationally, industrially and economically backward rural areas, keeping in mind that the purpose of education is to make an individual a unique personality so as to help the society with the vistas of new ideas. With the motto of “Knowledge, Service and Progress”, the college which started with 180 students in the year 1995 with three UG Programs has recorded a stupendous growth by expanding to the strength of 4800 students with 16 UG Programs and 5 Post Graduate Programs.

Sethu Institute of Technology offers undergraduate (B.E/B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.E/M.Tech) programs in a variety of fields along with doctoral programs.  The courses are offered in many streams such as engineering and architecture, computer application and IT, and science.  Admission to B.Tech programs at Sethu Institute of Technology is based on a qualifying test followed by TNEA counselling.  Admission to M.Tech programs is determined by passing the TANCET exam, which is followed by a counselling process.

The Institute offers scholarships to students who are financially poor or come from low-income families. The college also offers scholarships at the state and national levels. 1.  BACKWARD CLASSES WELFARE DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is granted to the students belonging to BC/ MBC/ DNC community admitted in Govt. Quota & whose parent’s income does not exceed Rs.1,00,000/- per annum.

2.  FIRST GENERATION GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

This Tuition Fees concession is granted to First Generation Graduate students admitted under Government Quota for Ist Year B.E./ B.Tech & Lateral Entry Direct II year B.E./ B.Tech is granted by State Government.

3. “UZHAVAR PATHUKAPPU THITTAM”

This scholarship is granted to the children of farmers.

4.  PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded by the Government to Physically Handicapped Students.

5.  TEACHERS WELFARE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship granted to the sons/ daughter of Teachers by National Foundation for Teachers Welfare, Chennai.

6.  DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP

This is a Departmental Scholarship provided for the higher studies of the student whose Parents working in State Govt.

Sethu Institute of Technology, Virudhunagar

The College Central Library providing service to students and Faculty has been automated infrastructural facilities. With the State-of-the art equipments, we have a huge collection of information, which are available in digital format including audio/video, online courses apart from books and periodicals. Our vision is to provide world class knowledge resource that not only caters to the curricular requirements but also promotes intellectual enquiry and research.Sethu Institute of Technology has got separate hall of residences for both boys and girls with excellent infrastructural facilities for the costly and comfortable staying of the inmates. The hall of residence for women is very spacious with 52 furnished rooms accommodating 282 students. A warden will be taking charge of all the issues inside the premises. There is also a prayer hall, a browsing center, a net room and a store. Two rooms are allotted exclusively for faculty members. In the same expected standard, the hall of residence for boys can accommodate 364 students with furnished rooms for their comfortable stay. Two wardens are deputed to monitor all the activities.

The College has a well established sports facility with 25 acres of playground and other facilities for different sports and games. The Institution encourages the students to participate in different sports, games, yoga competitions in the University level, State level and National level. Yoga, Prayer and Meditation halls are provided in Girls and Boys hostel to develop a healthy life and a sound body. Gym Facilities with the latest fitness equipments are also available for men and women.

Transport

Transport is the main facility considering the strength of around 2,400 students, 359 faculty and other 304 staff members. The college is fully geared up to meet all the needs for better commuting from college to respective places from far away locations covering almost 60 kms in and around Madurai city.

To beef up such demands Sethu Institute of Technology transport section operates a fleet of 56 buses with the driver strength of 65. Apart from this, there are 15 Mazda vans and 15 cars to Ply from different destinations. The general route covers the areas of Madurai, Aruppukkottai, Usilampatti, Sholavandan, Melur, Sivagangai, Vathalagundu, Sattur, Sivakasi, Dindigul, Thirumangalam and Virudhunagar.

The college provides free transport facility for the teaching staff and supporting staff. Special buses are available after college hours for the convenience of the staff and students involved in sports and other activities.
