Sethu Institute of Technology offers undergraduate (B.E/B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.E/M.Tech) programs in a variety of fields along with doctoral programs.  The courses are offered in many streams such as engineering and architecture, computer application and IT, and science.  Admission to B.Tech programs at Sethu Institute of Technology is based on a qualifying test followed by TNEA counselling.  Admission to M.Tech programs is determined by passing the TANCET exam, which is followed by a counselling process.

Admission to Sethu Institute of Technology, Virudhunagar is conducted according to the applicable regulations of Anna University, the Government of Tamil Nadu, and the Directorate of Technical Education. For B.E./B.Tech programmes, eligible candidates generally participate in the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) process. Candidates must complete the prescribed application, provide their academic details and required certificates, and undergo document verification. Seats are allotted based on qualifying-examination merit, applicable reservation rules, counselling preferences, and seat availability. In the same expected standard, the hall of residence for boys can accommodate 364 students with furnished rooms for their comfortable stay. Two wardens are deputed to monitor all the activities.

The Institution encourages the students to participate in different sports, games, yoga competitions in the University level, State level and National level. Yoga, Prayer and Meditation halls are provided in Girls and Boys hostel to develop a healthy life and a sound body. Gym Facilities with the latest fitness equipments are also available for men and women.

The Hall of Residences are provided with built-in wardrobes, cupboards, cots, tables and chairs including hot water facility. Round the clock phone facility is available and also to continuously monitor the hostel campus securities will be on their duty 24×7. The Wi-fi technology enables the inmates to update their knowledge then and there. Study hours are planned to see that the students fare well in the examinations.

Special coaching classes are conducted for slow learners of hostels after regular class hours. The dining halls are always maintained with spic and span and hygienic food is provided for the inmates. There is a separate vegetarian and non- vegetarian dining hall. Many more facilities are available such as Prayer hall, TV hall, GYM hall, Browsing center, Net room, and Store. Carrom board and other indoor games are provided for recreation. There is also a STD booth inside the hostel premises.

Transport is the main facility considering the strength of around 2,400 students, 359 faculty and other 304 staff members. The college is fully geared up to meet all the needs for better commuting from college to respective places from far away locations covering almost 60 kms in and around Madurai city.

To beef up such demands Sethu Institute of Technology transport section operates a fleet of 56 buses with the driver strength of 65. Apart from this, there are 15 Mazda vans and 15 cars to Ply from different destinations. The general route covers the areas of Madurai, Aruppukkottai, Usilampatti, Sholavandan, Melur, Sivagangai, Vathalagundu, Sattur, Sivakasi, Dindigul, Thirumangalam and Virudhunagar.

The college provides free transport facility for the teaching staff and supporting staff. Special buses are available after college hours for the convenience of the staff and students involved in sports and other activities.
