About

In the late 1980s the government felt the need to start a new medical college to cater to the needs of Vidarbha region. It was the tireless efforts of late Shri. Sudhakarraoji Naik, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra and health minister Shri. Jawaharlalji Darda, Yavatmal was selected for the purpose. It was named after late Shri Vasantraoji Naik who was the first chief minister from this region also known as Father of Green Revolution (Harit krantiche pranete) as a tribute to his contribution to farming. The Vasantrao Naik Government Medical college (SVNGMC) was lucky to have visionaries as Dean Dr. V.S.Gosavi as the first Dean from 17/05/1989 to 31/07/1993. Others who later occupied this chair were Dr. N.K. Deshmukh, Dr. H.R.Nagarle, Dr.B.G.Waghmare, Dr. R.K.Ayachit, Dr.V.K.Bhutada, Dr.A.A.Pathak, Dr.N.N.Ambhore, Dr.S.K.Bobhate, Dr.A.P.Dongre, Dr.A.D.Rathod. All the above dignitaries tried their level best to improve the medical college and hospital administration. The college got rejuvenated when the very enthusiastic & dynamic Dr. Manish Baburao Shrigiriwar joined this institute as Dean on 10th October 2017. He is working hard to upgrade the medical education and patient facility at our institute. Being strict administrator, he is student/patient and environment friendly. .

Every person holding the post of dean has tried his level best to upgrade the medical college as a result of which currently we have 150 MBBS seats approved by MCI. We offer post graduate courses in almost all subjects.This college is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, NASHIK.

Being established for over a span of more than three decades, the college boasts of a very impressive infrastructure which includes a grand well furnished Administrative and Academic building, OPD building, Lecture halls, well equipped separate Library building, Auditorium, Hostel facilities for students with Gymnasium, Residential facilities to the teaching & non teaching staff. The teaching staff is experienced & excellent.

Patient care has been a priority of this institute, A large number of patients from surrounding area as well as patients from adjoining region of Andhra Pradesh are benefited by the institution and hospital. Nearly 1300 patients are registered daily in the OPD, with full information of patients available at a click in HMIS (Healthcare Management Information System).

We have attached Hospital with indoor facilities for 765 beds, well equipped Operation Theatres, Specialty clinics, ART centre, Sickle cell unit, Family planning unit, Immunization centre, fully equipped Intensive coronary care unit with central monitoring system MICU, NICU & surgical recovery room. (Post operative cases). We have a state of ART Central Sterilization Unit (CSSD).

Admission Criteria

Admission Process

Admissions into GMC Yavatmal are done based on scores obtained in NEET UG, NEET PG and NEET SS for MBBS, MD/MS, and Super Speciality courses respectively. 15% of seats are reserved for All India Quota and the remaining 85% of seats are reserved for State Quota for the MBBS course. MCC will conduct counselling for All India Quota seats and State Quota seats will be filled via Maharastra State counselling . After the declaration of the result counselling is conducted by MCC for All India Quota seats and State quota seats will be filled by Maharastra State Counselling. Candidates must register on the concerned website and fill and lock out their preferred colleges. Upon successful registration, they need to pay a one-time counselling fee. Seats are allotted as per the availability and scores of other candidates.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must have completed 10+2 (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English) with a minimum of 50% marks (40% for reserved categories).
  
• Must qualify in the NEET-UG examination conducted by NTA.
  
• The candidate should meet the age requirement (17 years minimum).

After completing the MBBS program, students undergo a one-year compulsory internship at the attached government hospital. • Hostel: Separate Boys and Girls Hostel are available at GMC Yavatmal along with mess, drinking facilities, CCTV, and 24/7 security in both the hostels. Boy's Hostel has a total seating capacity of 268 whereas Girl's Hostel has a seating capacity of 280.
