About Us
Spread over 5.5 acres of verdant landscape owned wholly by the Sharavathi Education Trust, Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital is situated on an independent campus with the infrastructure befitting a modern, well-established academic cum dental institution. The college is spread across three functional blocks that house the administration department, laboratories, classrooms, library, hospital and a separate block for anatomical studies and practicals.

The college boasts prolific academic results at university level with pass percentage of 80% and above. In 2004, the pass rate reached a phenomenal high of 92%- reflective of the excellent facilities provided for our students:

It has a well equipped with a fully functional outpatient hospital where patients are administered treatment at subsidised costs. The hospital comes fully furnished with all the necessary modern dental equipment for diagnoses and treatments. Students are often given the opportunity to work side by side with their faculty members. This allows them greater exposure to clinical procedures by practising their skills at the hospital as well conducting free dental camps for people in rural areas.

The Sharavathi Dental College is proud to be affiliated the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore as well the Indian Dental Association (IDA). Under the latter, all students are provided opportunity to take part in IDA activities where they can enhance their knowledge, talent, and skill sets at conferences and (CDE) programs and journals.

Admission
Procedure for Admission

Application in the prescribed form and complete in all respects should be submitted to the Principal, Shravathi Dental College within the last date specified for the same. This application should be accompanied by true copies of the concerned mark cards and other certificates. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
The registration fees of Rs. 50/- has to be paid along with the application form in cash or by DD in favour of Principal, payable at Shimoga.
The registration fee paid will not be refunded. The filing of the application with registration fee is not a guarantee of admission which is decided on merit and performance in the interview.
Selected candidates will be called for an interview by the Principal before the selection committee. Intimation to this effect will be sent by ordinary post. The guardian/parent has to accompany the candidate for the interview at their own cost.
An applicant invited for interview should bring with him ORIGINALS of the following documents without fail.
For BDS Degree Course
a. SSLC Marks Card
b. Pre University Marks Card (I & II Year)
Character and Conduct certificate from Institution last studied.
Scheduled Caste/Tribe Certificates
Backward Community – Caste/ Tribe Certificates
Low Income Group (A correct income certificate in all these cases should also be attached)
Any other certificates or records as informed by the Principal
Four passport size photographs
After the interview is over for all the candidates, an intimation card will be sent by post to the candidates selected and the list of selected candidates will be notified on the college notice board. The selected candidates shall pay the required fees on or before the stipulated date, failing which the seats will be allotted to next deserving candidate.
Migration Certificate, Transfer Certificate and such other documents should be obtained and produced by the applicant on or before the date stipulated for the same. The college does not hold itself responsible for any lapse or delay in this matter.
Fees once paid will not be refunded or adjusted to any other accounts under any circumstances.
Every student admitted is bound by the prevailing rules and regulations of the college, hospital and hostel and thouse that are framed from time to time.

Placements and Scope
Knowing about various career options after pursuing a BDS course is quite essential, as the 12th pass-outs should understand various career opportunities in the field of dental sciences. Sharavathi Dental College & Hospital Shimoga BDS graduates can enter into any one of the following career paths and can earn names and fame in their areas.

Internship.

The Dental Council of India mandates a compulsory 1-year internship during the BDS course. Students should complete this internship in a dental institution and acquire practical skills to become dental doctors.

Higher Education
Master’s Degree in Dental Surgery.
A master’s degree can be pursued after the BDS degree to specialize in any one of the dental streams. Students undergo rigorous practical and clinical training during their MDS course. Sharavathi Dental College & Hospital Shimoga offers MDS courses in various specializations.

Research.
After MDS, a Ph.D. is the next higher educational course one can pursue. During this course, one has to propose a research idea and work on it. To be able to earn the degree the findings of the work need to be submitted. It is one of the most respected career paths.

Exams are held by the central and state governments to choose dentists for their public clinics and hospitals. Even though there are fewer openings each year, many graduates take these government exams because they wish to get a job in the government. Boys Hostel
BOYS’ HOSTEL at SDC College renders distinct hostel amenities and can accommodate more than 200 students. Separations are provided for reading rooms on each floor which are partitioned from a common room present for enjoying television. There is a badminton court, football ground and a table tennis table provided in the boys’ hostel. Resident warden and teaching staff create the right balance to monitor the students and at the same time impart good discipline within the hostel.


Girls Hostel
GIRLS’ HOSTEL at SDC is provided with exquisite amenities inside the college campus. The ladies` hostel can have room for more than 400 members. The hostel is allotted with luxurious mess halls and study halls. First-year students have a distinct wing in the hostel. Gentle warden and firm security assure a soothing stay, permitting students to focus on their studies.
