Shivanand College, Kagwad - the prime educational institute in the rural area in Belgaum District on the borders between Karnatak and Maharastra, was founded in June, 1967 by a great Saint (Late) His Holiness Vedant Keasri Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji Maha Swamiji. It is affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi (earlier Karnatak University, Dharwad) and is managed by Shri. Mallikarjun Ashram Trust Kagwad.

The college was established with the motto of providing equal opportunities of higher education to the poor and backward sections of this Part of the rural community. It was the teaching, benevolent care and blessing of Mahaswamiji that kindled the thirst for higher learning among the citizens of Kagwad and those of the neigh- bouring villages. The preachings and guidance of H.H. Dnyanyogi Shri Siddheshwar Mahaswamiji have enabled this college to rise to fulfill the objective for which it has been established.

The selfless, relentless and untiring efforts of some philanthropists and leaders of the town and their generous donations have made this college a temple of learning.The college management has made all possible efforts, with the scant resources at its disposal to build-up the college in to a self sufficient institution so as to serve the educational needs of the rural community in adequate measures.

Vision

Our vision is the vision which the Saint- Seer, His Holiness Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji had before him in founding this college in the rural hinterland of Karnataka adjoining to Maharashtra border ; viz. “To provide (equal) opportunities of higher education to rural youth”, impoverished as they are and deprived of easy access to urban centers.
Since education is the only means of social mobility, we believe that by providing rural youth with access to higher education we are enabling them to come up in life, shape their careers and play their role as an integral part of the mainstream of national life.

Mission

Our Mission is to carry forward the Torch of Knowledge through the up-coming generations of Indian manpower, not only by presenting what has been handed down, but also by spreading it as widely as may be, and to add to it by ever-ongoing efforts to create new knowledge. In a word,

“It is commitment to propagation of knowledge”.

The whole admission process for all the courses offered is offline and merit-based. Any candidate who fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria can take part in the admission process. Admission to all the courses is based on the marks scored by the applicant in the concerned qualifying examination.

The candidates must be studying in Classes 11 and 12 at a recognised educational institution in India. Applicants must have scored at least 60% marks in the preceding class. The annual family income of the applicants from all sources must be less than or equal to₹2,50,000.
