Sibsagar University (short name: SU Assam) is a public state university located in Sivasagar District, Assam, India. Originally established in 1947 as Sibsagar College, it was upgraded to a full-fledged State University in 2023 under the Sibsagar University Act, 2023. The institution was founded on the vision of Padmadhar Chaliha and the local community to foster higher education and academic growth. Its guiding purpose is to provide “Quest for Light” by promoting quality education, research, and social development in the region.

Sibsagar University is situated at Joysagar, near the historic Joysagar Tank, about 5 km south-west of Sivasagar town, amidst a scenic, tranquil environment that supports academic learning. The campus spans approximately 103 bighas (around 20–25 acres), blending Assam’s cultural heritage with modern educational facilities. Admission Criteria

BA and B.Sc Admission

• Students, who want to pursue higher studies after 10+2 level in the field of Aand Science may do so as Sibsagar College offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in various specializations. The duration for each of the specializations is three years and intake capacity is different for different courses.
  
• In order to take admission, first and foremost thing to do is to to successfully complete the 10+2 level or equivalent in concerned subjects. The admission process for the above mentioned courses is managed by the college itself on the basis of marks obtained in last qualifying examination. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will only be entertained, rest will be eliminated.

BCA & PGDCA Admission

• Apart from B.Sc and BA offered by the college at undergraduate level, Sibsagar College also provides Bachelor of Computer Application for a duration period of three years. The college also offers one year programme of Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) to the aspiring candidates who want to pursue Computer Applications after Bachelor’s Degree.
  
• Candidates seeking admission in BCA & PGDCA should be well aware of the fact that the college follows “First Come First Served” policy for taking eligible candidates into its college. However, candidates who have qualified their last examination in relevant discipline are only liable to apply.
