History
Sivanthi Aditanar college, Pillayarpuram is a co-educational self-finance college, inaugurated on 12th july 1984. This institution is being run by Thenkumari Educational Society, an association of temple trusts and individuals belonging to Hindu Nadar Community of Kanniyakumari District as shareholders. The College is situated in a vast evergreen and pollution free campus in Pillayarpuram village, which is just 5 km away from Nagercoil town in the Sanguthurai Beach Road.

The objective of the College is to impart quality and disciplined education for the allround development of students in particular women hailing from the educationally, economically and socially backward sections of the population and to bring them to the fore of the society.

The idea to start the institution occurred in the minds of Prof.S.Thanumalai and Prof.R.AndiNadar. They shared their views with the prominents persons in the society and the Founder Committee was formed in 1982. Thiru.P.ThanulingaNadar Ex.M.P., played an important role as Co-ordinator of the activities of the founder committee. He stimulated the members to carry out the preliminary works for the establishment of the College.

Dr.B.Sivanthi Adithan, a top brass of our time in journalism, education, industry and sports and Games, Dr.M.Natarajan MBBS., M.Ch(Ortho)FRCS(Eng) and Dr.C.Kumaraswamy MBBS,D.A., used their goodwill and longstanding association with the then Chief Minister Dr.M.G.Ramachandran to get permission from the government for the college. The then Education Minister Mr.C.Aranganayagam also rendered his support for the establishment of this institution.

Thiru.S.Sundaralingam, a philontharaphic businessman in Kottar and President of the Founder Committee, Thiru.S.Murugesan, a noble hearted merchant and Vice President of the Founder Committee, Thiru.S.Sathasivan, a staunch devotee of Lord Siva and treasurer of the Founder Committee and Thiru.S.Rajagopalan, former District congress president and Founder secretary of the college shouldered the responsibility to establish the college and to provide the necessary infrastructure. They mobilised the required money for the college through their contribution and collection of donation and shares from the people. They are the real pillars on which the edifice of the college has been built. Thiru.S.Srinivasan and Thiru.P.Paramasivan, retired teachers in the Founder committee, Thiru.S.Murugesan, editor of the monthly journal InduBhoomi and member of the founder committee and Thiru.K.Annakunjaran first H.O.D. of Tamil in our college dedicated themselves in canvassing shares and collecting money from the sharholders throughout the district.

We are indebted to the people of Udayappankudyiruppu, Monikettipottal and Pillayarpuram. They gave their valuable lands voluntarily for the college. By God’s grace the construction work moved swiftly without a hitch.

Admission
Sivanthi Aditanar College (SAC) pursues a holistic admission policy for all the Programmes offered by the institution. A holistic admission policy seeks to understand the applicant not only by marks secured but also ensures the applicant fulfills the required norms for admission in to a programme. This is in keeping in view to suggest the applicant to select the programme suitable for his career.

Admission Policy and Process

• Admissions will be carried out through online / offline mode.
• Admission process will be as per the guidelines of Tamil Nadu Government and Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.
  
• All the candidates seeking admission to the Undergraduate (UG)/ Postgraduate (PG) Programmes are required to register online or can visit to the College and get registered.
  
• Students who have got applications are requested to fill their marks and submit the applications through online / offline mode after thoroughly checking the necessary details are filled.
  
• If any applicant is unable to submit the application in online, they can submit the hard copy of the filled in application to the college.
  
• Admission is made purely on the basis of merit, subject to the rules of reservation of the Government of Tamil Nadu and Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.
  
• The applicants will be eligible to take admission in all the programmes provided they satisfy the eligibility for the selected programme.
  
• Applicants will be responsible for the authenticity of all the information they provide.
  
• Admissions will be considered to be complete only when the full fee for the semester is paid (against an official receipt) and the name of the applicant appears on the relevant roll

1. Adi-Dravidar & Tribal Welfare Scholarship – State

     Government Scholarship

This scholarship is sanctioned by the State Government.  For SC/ST Hindu students whose parents’ annual income is up to Rs.2,50,000/- are eligible for this scholarship. For SCC (SC converted Christian) students whose parents’ annual income is up to Rs.2,00,000/- are eligible for this scholarship. The Students are eligible to get Free Education. Students who are not in receipt of the Central Government Scholarship are entitled to get the State Government Scholarship.

1. (a) Higher Education Scholarship

       This scholarship is applicable for SC/ST Hindu Hostel students whose parents’ annual income is up to Rs.2,50,000/- and for SCC (SC converted Christian) Hostel students whose parents’ annual income is up to Rs.2,00,000/-.

2. Department of Backward Classes Welfare Scholarship –  

      State Government Scholarship

State Government Scholarship is awarded to BC/MBC/DNC students whose parents’ annual income is up to Rs.2,00,000.

2. (a) First Graduate State Government Scholarship

       The students, if he/she is a first graduate from the family, he/she is entitled to receive this scholarship without any other restrictions.

3. Farmer’s Scholarship

Scholarship under this scheme is awarded to the wards of farmers sanctioned under Farmer Social Security Scheme. The details, of the scholarship amounts, are given below:

4. Minority cum Merit Scholarship

This Scholarship is awarded to Christian or Muslim students whose parents’ annual income is up to Rs.2,50,000. Only 2 members in a family can receive this scholarship. A minimum of fifty percent marks with no arrears is must to obtain this scholarship.

5. State Loan

State Loan is given to SC/ST students irrespective of parents’ annual income, which is to be repaid after the employment of the concerned students. Special Scholarship for Higher Education is given to SC/ST students who stay in hostel and whose parents’ annual income is below Rs.1,00,000/-.

6. Chief Minister’s Award

SC/ST students who have secured meritorious marks in +2 examinations at the state level are eligible for the Chief Minister’s Award. Under this scheme, the eligible students will receive a grant of Rs.1500/- per year till the completion of their college studies.

7. Bank Loan Facility

Students who want to avail this loan facility are required to get the prior approval of the Bank Manager. A certificate of approximate expenditure details for the entire course of study will be issued by the Principal on request. The bank will thereafter sanction the loan. The decision of the bank is final in this regard.

8. Chief Minister Fund

An amount of Rs.5,000/- per year is granted to all the students of Arunthathiar Community under this scheme.

9. Central sector Scheme of Scholarship

All the students whose parents’ income is below Rs.4,50,000/- are eligible to receive this scholarship provided the mark criteria given by the Scheme is met. An amount of Rs.1,000/- per month is granted during the first 3 years of the course and Rs.2,000/- per month during the Final year of the course of study.

10. Tamil Nadu Trust Scholarship

This scholarship is granted to students with a minimum of sixty percent marks and whose parents’ income is below Rs.50,000/-. Under this scheme

Rs.5,000/- is granted for U.G. students and 4,500/- for P.G. students.

11. Beedi & Limestone Workers Scholarship

This Scholarship is granted only to the children of Beedi & Limestone Workers. The total family income should not exceed Rs.10,000 /-per month and the student is not in receipt of any other scholarship. The eligible students receive a grant of Rs.8,000/-per year.

Library
The college has a Library as the resource center that provides sufficient reading materials needed for the students to upgrade their knowledge. It is equipped with a sufficient collection of books, journals, and newspapers. There are 7,687 books in the library. The library is housed at a central place in the college with a 2,800 square feet area.

Laboratories
The college has a departmental based laboratory facility for the students.

Boys Hostel
The college has a boy's hostel to accommodate outstation students. The hostel is housed within the campus under the direct supervision of the Principal. The principal is the warden. Mr. Kanagarajan, Superintendent of the college serves as the Deputy Warden of the hostel. The hostel was established in 1985. The rooms and the surrounding area are spacious enough to accommodate 40 students. There are 20 rooms measuring 200 square feet each.

The college has a girl's hostel to accommodate outstation students. The hostel is housed within the campus under the direct supervision of the Principal. The principal is the warden. Mr. Kanagarajan, Superintendent of the college serves as the Deputy Warden of the hostel. The hostel was established in 1985. The rooms and the surrounding area are spacious enough to accommodate 40 students. There are 20 rooms measuring 200 square feet each.

Transport Facility The college draws a considerable number of girl students from rural areas which do not have proper transport services. The absence of proper transport services discourages formal education from the poor in such areas. Women's education is hampered at a large level in the Kanniyakumari district because of the absence of transportation.
