SMS College of Arts and Science (SMSCAS) is a self-financing institution affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, founded by the Cheran Foundation Trust in 1991 to offer quality education with social responsibility acknowledging holistic development. Catering to the need of the hour and prevailing career opportunities, SMSCAS offers 16 Under Graduate and 4 Post Graduate degree programs.
SMSCAS is ideally located in a pleasant and serene atmosphere with pollution-free surrounding of 4.27 acres which is conducive to learning environment. The College is situated in a good-natured green environment located near ‘Noyyal’ river basin at Selvapuram South, Perur, nearly a distance of 8.5 Km away from the National Highways No.47 that connects Coimbatore and Palakkad cities, 8.3 Km away from Gandhipuram, from Ukkadam Bus-stop 5.6 km, 4.6 Km away from Kerala border, 18.1 Km from Coimbatore International Airport, 11.8 km from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and 6.1 Km from Coimbatore Railway station. Easily accessible transport facility of buses is available 24/7 plying to various places like Coimbatore, Tirupur, Pollachi, Mettupalayam, Nilgiris, and Kerala regions.
SMSCAS ensures the knowledge and skill development of the students to compete internationally through blended learning. To gain knowledge beyond the classroom activities and for hands-on training, industry visit, technical and non-technical skill development activities, etc., to induce MoUs/Linkages and Tie-ups with organizations like PSGR Krishnammal College for Women – Coimbatore, ICTACT Academy, and etc. are established.

To achieve quality in education, SMSCAS systematically organizes curricular and co-curricular activities through student-supporting centres and clubs. Committees are constituted to support the execution of all the tasks in a well-organized manner for the holistic development of the institution. To horn, the talents of our sports students the Department of Physical Education at SMSCAS has encouraged and trained the students in their specialized events by creating tremendous opportunities. The Department of Physical Education conducts many Inter-University, Inter-Collegiate, and Open Tournaments in the field of indoor and outdoor sports and participating in the All India Inter-University tournaments. The department coordinates games and sports activities of the other affiliated colleges of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and provides opportunities for the students to demonstrate their competence in inter-collegiate sports meets.

To equip the teaching-learning process, our campus is provided with a WIFI facility with a speed of 300 MBPS and high configured systems with a ratio of 5:1, to develop the computing skills of the students. To ensure the safety of the women faculty members of the college a 24/7 vigilance through CCTV camera is available in the campus. To maximize the learning potential, our Learning Resource Centre (Library) connects students individually to access resources through digital Library service and to utilize all the available net sources.

Admissions:

Cheran group of institutions pursues a holistic admission policy for all the programmes offered by the institution. A holistic admission policy seeks to understand the whole applicant beyond marks and solicit whether an applicant will be a good fit in a programme and whether they will thrive. This is in keeping with the best practices of International Universities and allows us to select the best applicant for our programmes.

Admission Policy and Process :

Admission will be carried out through online application portal.
Admission process will start as per the guidelines of Tamil Nadu Government.
All the candidates seeking admission to the Undergraduate (UG)/ Postgraduate (PG) are required to register online or can visit
to the College and receive the printed application.
As per the present policy, a candidate seeking admission in Undergraduate (UG) programmes must have passed 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognised board and seeking admission in Postgraduate (PG) programmes must have passed UG programme from a recognised Institution/University.
Applicants will be responsible for the quality and authenticity of all the information they enter, including upload of copies of certificates.
Admissions will be considered to be complete only when the full fee for the academic year is paid (against an official receipt) and the name of the applicant appears on the relevant rolls.
Applicants who do not have a valid e-mail ID must create an e-mail ID before proceeding as all the future correspondence is through this e-mail ID throughout the admission process.
Programme selection can be done any number of times after the first registration using login credentials.
The selection of admission is confirmed on verification of the original mark sheet, community certificate and other relevant documents. The admission of the candidate is subject to the approval of Bharathiar University.
If any applicant is unable to submit the application in online they can submit the hard copy of the filled in application in the drop box available in the college.
If student registered at university and not attended any class then collect nominal fees and return his certificate.
If student registered and continued for semester/ any semesters and attend minimum of 15 days of class then he has to pay that particular semester fees.
After 15 days, the principal is to send a warning letter to the student via registered post and email. 30 days – 2nd notice. 45 days – final notice and the same should be intimated through WhatsApp also. 46th day – to send the information to accounts and management with the attached proof.
On discontinuing from the course, if it is registered, student has to pay current semester fees. All discontinued students list should be sent to the Accounts department, for the clearance of No dues certificate.

Our college facilitates students with the placement cell that gives a successful career in future. We assist our students to grab their dream job and we give special training for students for developing communication & soft skills, aptitude and technical knowledge.

We concentrate on the holistic skill development of the student that includes communication, technical, and aptitude skills. Sports Scholarship:

Sports Scholarship for sports students from Cheran Foundation Trust

1.Students who have played Zone Level will get 25% Scholarship
2. Students who have played District Level will get 50% Scholarship
3. Students who have played Divisional Level will get 75% Scholarship
4. Students who have played State Level will get 100% Scholarship

Note: Student will get concession from their tuition fees based on their achievement in sports

INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES :

Good infrastructural facilities are the foundation upon which a college may carry out its functions fruitfully. Our SMSCAS facilities employ the most recent technologies to ensure the comfort and well-being of students and also provide them ways to be physically and mentally engaged. It also gives them a good platform to interact with their peers, teachers and important members of the society so that they may learn more and grow more.
Coimbatore is now the natural choice and preferred destination for students from different parts of the country to pursue education. The distance to the college from the city Railway station and Coimbatore Airport is 6km & 19km respectively.
The SMS College of Arts and Science campus at Perur is spread over an area of over 12824 Sqft which includes 3780 Sqft of built up area and having open space for garden and sports facilities.
The teaching- learning process is facilitated with Class rooms and Specialized laboratories. Class rooms are well furnished and ventilated. By creating a well-equipped campus, we have secured a conductive environment for learning through laboratories with the latest of equipment.
The SMSCAS has a well designed computer lab with high speed Internet connectivity, a seminar room, conference room, an auditorium and a well stocked library. The entire college campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The students have all the facilities for games and sports. Adequate infrastructure are provided for indoor and outdoor games and extra-curricular activities.

Hostel facilities:
The Cheran Foundation Trust (CFT) provides separate hostel facilities at SMSCAS for nearly 88 girls shared by 3 and 55 boys shared by 3. Our CFT Hostel is a safe space where we strive to provide our students with the comforts of home and the experience of residing within college culture. The Hostel is equipped with facilities that ensure that our students’ needs are adequately met. Moreover, spearheaded by our empathetic wardens, we take everyone’s interests into consideration and offers students ample freedom. Separate hostel facilities are provided for Boys and Girls in the college campus. It has adequate high security and good discipline. The students who are not staying with the parents shall reside in the college hostel as per college rules.

Sports :
Sports and physical education are an integral part of the curriculum at SMSCAS . Our sports infrastructure enables and supports students to excel in the sport of their choice. Games and sports pave way for the evolvement of mentally balanced youth with team spirit and sound emotional health. Under qualified guidance and supervision, of the best Physical Training Instructor, our students have been actively participating in various district, state and national level competitions where they have won numerous awards. This ensures that the youthful energy and creative potential of our students is effectively channelized.

Library:
The Library at SMS Arts is well-stocked and fully-computerized. It has around 22,000 books covering almost all aspects of Science, Commerce & Humanities. It regularly subscribes to about maximum periodicals including 5 daily newspapers in Tamil and English. Internet facility is also available for both students and faculty members of the institution. The services offered by the library are circulation, consultation, reference and inter- library loan.
“Knowledge is power and library is the powerhouse“. Books are the best teachers and counsellors. To synchronize theory and practice, the journals, magazines and newspapers are very helpful for the student community. A library in our college premises is a collection of information, resources and services which are available for the students and faculty of SMS for studies and research, organized for use, and maintained by a responsible body. The library has comfortable reading rooms spread with a seating capacity of 100. In SMS, we extend its current awareness services by providing newspapers/ magazines in the staff Room and the student’s common room. The SMS library remains open for the students and faculty from 8:00 am to 6.30 p.m on all working days.

Computer Laboratory:
We provide world-class lab facilities for each department. Computing facilities for the students include a full air-conditioned well-equipped laboratory with about 300+ computers connected to the centralized servers. Every workplace on the campus has Wi-Fi connectivity with a separate login ID.
Our laboratories are well built and adequately equipped with the advanced tools supporting the research activities. Enhanced lab facilities support the enriched collaboration of theoretical learning with practical experience.
The exceptional laboratories of the educational group have received miraculous recognition and applause for the valuable contribution in the research field. This feature makes the college outstanding from the competitors of the education field.

Transportation Facility :

The College is only 10 km away from the heart of the city and city buses are available at every 5 minutes. Bus stop is just before the college campus and the Railway station is just 6km away from the college. Based on the requirement, the Cheran college bus is available for transportation of students, faculty and staff members.
