Solamalai College of Engineering which is one of the top Private, Self-financed Autonomous Colleges in Madurai for Engineering, was established by the Arun Ram Kumar Educational Trust and the college started functioning during the academic year 1995-96 with the approval of All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and Government of Tamil Nadu. In 2016, the college, formerly known as Raja College of Engineering and Technology, was acquired by the Solamalai Group, a prominent brand in Madurai with a history dating back to 1962 when it began as a single lorry operator. Today, it is a part of the Solamalai Institutions which is into Arts, Engineering, Management Studies and Polytechnic. Mr. V.S.P. Solamalai Pitchai B.Sc is the Chairman and Mr S P Anand is the Executive Director.

SCE Campus is set in a beautiful green area in 9.64 acres of land and built-up area of 19768.88 Sqm. The college is located at Solamalai Knowledge Park, S.V, Raja Nagar, Veerapanjan, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, about 6 km from Anna Bus stand on the Madurai-Sivagangai Road .
