Sona College of Technology, Salem was established in the year 1997. The college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.  You'll be surprised to know that the man behind this magnum opus called Sona Group of institutions was a simple, humble, affable, kind-hearted gentleman called Mr. M. S. Chockalingam. A skilled businessman and a great textile wizard, Mr.Chockalingam was at heart a big giver. His desire to give back to the society and nurture the next generation bore fruit in the form of the reputed Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, a top ranking institution in the country.  Mr.Chockalingam established Sona College in 1997. Sona, by the way, is the name by which Mr.Chockalingam was addressed by his friends and admirers. And just like the man himself, Sona College of Technology is now a powerful ray of hope that guides youngsters towards fulfilling careers.

Surrounded by hills on all sides and especially the Shervoroy hills in the north east, Sona College of Technology is situated at the heart of the "Steel City" on Junction Main Road, Salem which is a well known district in Tamilnadu, South India. The College is one kilometre from the Salen Junction Railway Station and three kilometre from Salem Central Bus-stand  and students can reach the college within 5 minutes. The nearest airport to the college is Salem Airport located 17 km away.  Students can hire a taxi or an auto to reach Sona College of Technology, Salem.  Located in an arcadian environment, adjoining Thiagarajar Polytechnic, its elder sister, the college has a sprawling campus of 34.5 acres with a 7,50,000 sq.feet built up area.

Sona College of Technology offers a number of full Time undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various  disciplines, which include  B.E/B.Tech, B.E/B.Tech (Lateral Entry) courses, M.C.A and M.E/M.Tech in Engineering, Computer Application, Animation and Design, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science and many more sciences streams.   Sona College of Technology admission to the B.E/B.Tech is offered based on the merit of the qualifying exam followed by TNEA counselling. For S admissions to M.E/M.Tech programmes, candidates have to appear for the entrance exam - TANCET or GATE. Admission to M.C.A is done based on candidates' performance in the entrance exam - TANCET.

Sona College of Technology offers merit-based scholarships to deserving students and needy students. Sona College of Technology scholarships allow students to pursue their higher studies without any financial constraints. Students with good GATE or TANCET scores can apply for scholarships. Sona College of Technology has various infrastructural facilities for its students.  The college has sports facilities for games like basketball, volleyball, football, hockey, cricket and many other sports. Its facilities includes transport services for the convenience of students and staff coming from in and around Salem city. The college has a full-fledged dispensary and all students and staff can enjoy free medical services at the dispensary. Sona College of Technology also includes three cafeterias that function well to serve the students and staff members. The college Library has developed an excellent collection of 80000+books, 2000+ National and International journals and (2500+ CDs) non-book material  in science, engineering, technology, humanities, social sciences, and management. The Library is an institutional member in DELNET, IIM (B), TERI & INSDAG.

Separate hostel facilities are available for Indian and NRI boys and girls. The Hostel Included with Large Dinning hall, Swimming Pool, Gym, Indoor, and outdoor sports facilities.

Sona College of Technology is the first college to implement Apple lab within the campus, which has incredible infrastructure equipped with 15 iMac 21.5 inch and 20 Mac mini systems.Sona College of Technology has a well-established and dedicated Training and Placement Cell for campus placement and to handle all other placement related activities for Final year students. Every year the college invites various companies to take part in the Sona College of Technology Placement   Drive. The objective of the Sona College of Technology Placement Cell is to train the students to meet the expectations of the industry through the Career Development Programmes. Sona College of Technology, Salem 

Sona College of Technology, Salem has adequate infrastructural facilities on the campus. Sona College of Technology facilities include a library that has all kinds of text and reference books for the students and it is a place for book lovers. The institute has a computer centre to satisfy all the computational and technological requirements of the students and the faculty. It also has an auditorium which is used to conduct various activities and events organised by students. Sona College of Technology, Salem provides hostel facilities to the students and has separate hostels for girls and boys. Students can avail the facilities of Wi-Fi networks, indoor games, a gym, etc. Some other Sona College of Technology facilities are gymnasium, sports facilities, cafeteria, medical centre, Wi-Fi, IT infrastructure, transport facilities, swimming pool, convenience store, parking facilities, guest room, bank facility and many more.

Transport

We operate more than 15 buses in and around Coimbatore district. We also provide transport facility for students and staff members coming from far of places –Tirupur, Palladam, Mettupalayam, Sirumugai, Sathyamangalam, Puliyampatti, etc. Prescribed time slot has been used in each route and the same will be intimated to the students well in advance.

•   Usage of college transport is not compulsory and those who opted to use the college transport should abide by the transport rules of the college.
•  The students who want to use the college transport should fill requisition form and submit to the college at the beginning of the academic year.
•   Bus pass / Card will be issued to the students who have been permitted to use the college transport and the same will be valid for one academic year only.
•   The boarding/dropping point should be given clearly in the requisition form.
•   Once the student applied for college Transport and pays the full payment for one year, bus pass will be issued.
•   The transport fee is for one year and no pro-rata claim will be entertained for any reasons whatsoever.
•    Surrendering of bus pass in the middle of the academic year will not be permitted for any reasons except in the case if the student admitted in our college hostel.
•   The transport fee should be paid in the beginning of the year and the fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
•   The students should not change the boarding / dropping point, or routes without proper permission and such request will not be entertained during the mid-semester.
•   All the students traveling in the college bus should carry the bus pass and produce it at any time if demanded by the Driver or the Staff member of the college.
•   Those traveling in the bus without a bus pass will be fined and if necessary disciplinary action will also be taken.
•   The students traveling in the college bus should occupy the seats allotted to them and should not create any disturbance to other fellow students and staff.
•   Strict discipline should be maintained inside the college bus.
•   All the students / parents are expected to be aware of the transport rules of the college and ignorance of the same will not be an excuse for any dispute / claim.
•   The transport charges will be notified every year and is subject to change depending on the increase in the cost of fuel and other operating costs.
•   The students will not be permitted to board or drop at points other than that is specified in their bus pass.
•   In case of any dispute the decision of the Principal / Management will be the final and binding on the students.
•   The college can add, alter, amend any of the above rules at any point of time and it will be binding on the students.
