Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital (SBMCH) was established in the academic year 2003-04 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust (1984) with the aim of providing excellent medical education.  Indian Businessman and Politician, Dr S Jagathrakshagan, is the Founder-Chancellor.  He is also the Chairman of BIHER.  He is the owner of Rela Hospital, Chromepet  and has authored around 30 books, one of which was released by Mother Teresa.  The college has come under the ambit of Bharath Institute of Higher Education & Research (BIHER) in the year 2004.  

Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital complex is set in a sprawling area of 30.89 acres, ideally located in a healthy and hygienic surrounding. The campus is located on CLC Works Road, Shankar Nagar, Chromepet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The college is just about 1 km from the Chrompet Train station and 6 km from the Chennai International Airport. The nearest bus depot is West Tambaram Bus Depot, which is about 3 km from the institution.

SBMCH is a constituent college of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research. The college is approved by UGC and Medical council of India (NMC), New Delhi.  SBMC has NAAC accreditation. It also has an ISO Accredited Blood Bank and NABL accredited Laboratory.

Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital is a Tertiary Care Center imparting Training and Education to students along with Research and nurturing excellence in patient care.  It offers UG and PG programs in the fields of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.  At present the college has an annual intake of 250 UG admissions per year for M.B.B.S and 163 seats for various PG and Super Speciality (M.D/M.S/DM) courses – MD (15 streams 120 seats) / MS(4 stream 41seats) / DM (Neurology 2 seats).  The eligibility for admission into the college is bases on the NEET, NEET PG Entrance Exams.

SBMCH is provided with state of art infrastructure in terms of its Building Blocks which consists of all necessary facilities like Central Library, Hostel, Student Welfare Scheme, Sports Facilities, Cafeteria, Bank facilities.

The attached Sree Balaji Hospital, the 1000 bed Teaching Hospital provides all levels of holistic health care which includes major Super-speciality services like Critical Care, Cardiac Care, Minimally Invasive and Day Care Surgery, Nero-Care Centre and 24 hour Dialysis Centre.  This extends Training opportunities to the students of the institute.

Admission Procedure

Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital (SBMCH) in Chennai primarily offers MBBS and other medical courses through a merit-based admission process, largely based on the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) scores. Candidates must first qualify in NEET and then participate in online counseling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
