History
Established in 1974 SDM Law college has set a bench mark for quality legal education in southern India. The objective of the institution focused on imparting legal education to all sects of the society. The institution was built on strong foundation and has maintained its reputation as a fine institution for legal education over a period of time.
Initially the college was affiliated to the University of Mysore and functioned under the leadership of a eminent lawyer Prof. N J Kadamba, with a passionate commitment to education. During his tenure, the institution grew and this is revealed in its alumni. The alumni have done the nation proud with their erudition and services.
The college offered 3 year LL.B Programme in its inception. After shifting to Mangalore University the college was the first institution to start 5 Year LL.B Course in India. New Courses and other innovations san substantial growth in the progress of the college. This led to a series of far-reaching curricular changes including enrolment growth to the highest level. The LL.M programme was subsequently introduced in business and trade laws. A significant academic record was created and wherein the majority of ranks were bagged by our students.
The college is currently affiliated to Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi which streamlines legal Education in the State. Many elements of distinctive curricular programme also continue today. The traditional 2 semester academic year is in progress, giving ample scope for extracurricular activities and internship programmes.
The college has been accredited by NAAC with B++ grade(2007) and re accredited with A grade(2012). Many agencies who conduct survey of educational institutions have ranked us in prominent positions.

Placement
With a view to ease the transition from education to employment, the Training and Placement cell apart from conducting the annual placement hosts skill development programmes and encourages the students to intern with various organizations. In the year 2018, the annual placement named “Legal Career Path’18” was successfully conducted with the presence of over 18 recruiters and 59 students were placed. Beginning of the academic year 2018-2019 witnessed various pre placement talks like Legal Conclave’18, which hosted 15 legal professionals, majority of whom were alumni of our college.
Legal professionals from Aditya Birla Finance Group, Fox Mandal, Tatva Legal, ACA Juris and various other organizations gave the students a glimpse of what awaits them in the profession and the corporate sector. Another Pre-placement discussion was held with official representative and territory head Mr. Patil from Manupatra. A session on Career Opportunities in Law firms and Corporate was held by a former law associate, Clutch Group. Training Sessions were conducted by IDP Ltd. for law students on ILETS for placements abroad was organized. Further, a training –cum-workshop on ‘Law Degree & Beyond was organized in association with Legall India. A Campus to Corporate’ a training program was held by a team from Infinique. Various HR groups visited the campus inorder to provide soft skill training sessions to the students.
The cell also focuses on encouraging the students for winter and summer break internships, Over 580 students have interned from reputed law firms, Law associates/chambers, Judicial academy, Law ministry, CBI, Bio-Diversity Board, Patent and trade mark offices, NGOs, Corporate offices, Compliance depts., Revenue, police departments and research units. The training and placement cell hopes to provide the best platform for the existing potential at SDM Law with its consistent efforts.
SDM Law College Mangalore Facilities
The Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, Mangalore has a wide infrastructure on campus which helps the students to have a hassle-free learning experience throughout their college life. SDM Law College facilities include a cafeteria, auditorium, moot court, library, gym, and many other facilities. SDM Law College facilities include sports in order to give them a break from the regular academic schedule they follow. SDM Law College sports facilities include indoor and outdoor games. Students can avail of SDM Law College facilities in their free time for their recreation.

The college offers a Multi-Gymnasium hall, which is used by the students regularly. The gym is occupied with modern technology of equipment. The candidates can use the gym during their free time.
