About

Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust was formed in 1984 as a Public Charitable and Educational Trust under the able guidance of its trustees Smt. R.Gomathi Radhakrishnan, Thiru. A.N. Radhakrishnan and Tmt. D. Meenakshi Ammal with the aim of providing education in the rural areas in the field of Arts & Science, Technical Education, Dental Education and Medical Education.

To fulfill the above aims and objectives, Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital & Research Institute was established by the Trust in the year 2009 and has resulted in providing Medical education and Healthcare to the weaker section of society in rural areas.  This institute will fall under the category of Telugu Minority Institution.

The SMMCH&RI is located in a sprawling campus of over 27.11 acres with excellent infrastructure on the Kunrathur Rd, near Mangadu, Chikkarayapuram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. 

The College is affiliated to The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC and approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi with an annual intake of 150 MBBS seats and 13 seats in 3 disciplines of Postgraduate studies.  It is also accredited to NABL, NBA, NABH, ICMR and AYUSH.  SMMCH&RI Ranking for the year 2023, as announced by IIRF and Outlook, are 51st and 14th, respectively.

SMMCH&RI offers MBBS, MD, and MS programs at the UG and PG levels, respectively.  Admission to MBBS is based on the score in NEET UG. The college accepts NEET PG Scores for admission to the MD/ MS at the PG level. 

The Medical College, Multi-speciality Hospital, Central Library, Students Hostels, Faculty Quarters, Canteen, Cafeteria and Playgrounds are all situated within the campus.  The College building consists of ground + 6 Floors with a built up area of15600 sq.mts. All the Pre-clinical and Para clinical departments are accommodated in the College building. All the Departments are manned by experienced and dedicated faculty members fully confirming to the standards prescribed by the Medical Council of India.

The faculty is the greatest strength of SMMCH&RI who are experts in their own field and are at the forefront in transferring their rich knowledge and experience to the student community and mould them into highly competent professionals in the field of medicine.

SMMCH&RI is currently a postgraduate institute affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, with National Medical Commission permissions to admit students in specialties like General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Otorhinolaryngology from the academic year 2020-21 and Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry and Community Medicine  from the academic year 2021-22.

The Attached Hospital of the Medical College is a tertiary care 920 bedded hospital with all the specialities including Trauma care facility 24X7 Emergency and, Eye bank and blood bank facilities, Clinical and Diagnostic facilities, Critical care services, facilities for burn treatment, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy. There is huge number of OPD's and In-Patient daily footfall. Well equipped Operation Theatres and exclusive ICU's are available to cater to critical patients. The Hospital's General specialities include General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Bio-chemistry & Forensic Medicine.
