Sri Sarada College was started in 1961 as an affiliated college to the University of Madras with two sections of Pre-University class (with eighty students). Later, it has increased in strength to become a First Grade college with twelve under-graduate programmes, seven post-graduate programmes, nine M.Phil. programmes, nine Ph.D. programmes and two Self - Financing P.G. programmes (M.Sc. Data Science and M.Com.). Autonomous status was conferred by the University Grants Commission in the year 1988-1989 under the able guidance of Yatiswari Saradapriya Amba.The College was accredited with Four stars in 2002, re-accredited with ‘B’ Grade (2.94 on a 4 point scale ) in 2008 and re-accredited with ‘A’ Grade in 2014 by NAAC. In the fourth cycle our college was re-accredited with 'B++' Grade by NAAC. The foundation stone of Sri Sarada College for women was laid by the Former President of India, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on 06.01.1963. Former Prime Minister of India, Sri Rajiv Gandhi opened the Sister Nivedita Auditorium on 01.05.1987

The College offers upto-date career oriented education which is integrated with our ancient culture and tradition. To meet the challenges of the ever-changing modern scenario, the academic needs of the young students are closely analyzed and the curriculum is periodically redesigned in a way to develop the scientific temper and to enkindle the spirit of creativity in the students' minds. In almost all disciplines, priority is given to relate curriculum to the local needs. ADMISSION PROCEDURE

 Every academic year, admission is a process planned and executed by the committee
nominated by the Principal.
 Admission committee comprises the Principal, three senior faculty members and a
representative of a faculty member from the scheduled community.
 Admission Committee headed by the Principal, design the application forms and the
prospectus every year.
 The admission portal link is enabled in the College website at the scheduled hours of
admission.
 The prospectus gives an insight to the curricular highlights, the rules & regulations of the
college & the hostel and the fee structure as prescribed by the State Government and the
parent University (Periyar University).
 Adequate publicity regarding admission procedure is duly made through notice boards at
the college entrance, college websites and social media.
 Helpdesks are set up at the college entrance to guide and favour the applicants who come in
person.
 After the declaration of Higher Secondary examination results / UG Examination results,
applications are filled in and uploaded by prospective candidates.
 All the application forms duly submitted and uploaded by the applicants are serially
numbered.
 Filled in applications submitted by the applicants are carefully collated.
 Computerized Rank list is generated and published in the College website.
 Transparency is absolutely ensured in the admission process.
 Single Window System is adopted.
 The institution maintains a prestigious track record of not accepting any capitation fee for
any programme in spite of the increasing demand that it enjoys.
 Reservation policies of the State Government are strictly followed to ensure that equity and
provision of access to the SC/ST and OBC applicants are implemented. (OBC- 50%, SC15%, SCA - 3% and ST- 1%).
 The application forms are issued to SC/ST students for free of cost.
 The SC/ST students are exempted from paying tuition fees.
 Differently abled students are exempted from paying tuition fees and special fees at the
time of admission.
Noteworthy highlights in the Admission Process

UG Programme
 After the declaration of Higher Secondary results, filled in applications are submitted
through the link provided in the portal by prospective candidates.
 The Database is built with the application data which further generate the rank list.
 Candidates are admitted through single window system.
 All the original documents of the provisionally selected candidates are verified at the
time of admission.

PG Programme
 After the declaration of the UG results by the Periyar University, link will be
provided for submitting Online Applications in the college website.
 Students are selected based on the marks scored in their undergraduate programmes,
strictly adhering to the reservation norms and eligibility criteria given by the
Government.
 The selection list is prepared through software.
 The selection list and waiting list with the quota-wise cut-off marks are published in the
websites with helpline numbers and also put up on the notice board.
 Enquiries regarding the selection process are addressed promptly.

M.Phil. Programme
 Admission to M.Phil. Programmes are made on the basis of marks scored in the
Master’s degree as well as their performance in the entrance test conducted by the parent
university (Periyar University) and personal interview by the respective departments.

Ph.D. Programme
 The doctoral research guidelines and norms of the parent university ( Periyar
University) are strictly followed in the selection of candidates for admission into Ph.D.
programmes.
 The criteria include merit, entrance test and interview marks.
 For all the academic programmes, after the admission, each student is given an admission
number with an identity card to confirm her enrolment.
Review of the Admission Process
 The college has a mechanism to review the admission process every year.
 The Principal with the members of the Admission Committee and the College Council
review the demand ratios for all the UG and PG programmes.
 The departments whose programmes are with very low demand are instructed to take
extra measures to enhance their enrolment in the coming years.

Placement
The Placement Cell in the college encourages the students to attend various campus interviews by arranging Career Guidance programmes, aptitude tests, Group Discussions, Mock Interviews, campus interviews and the C.V/Resume of the students are forwarded to the prospective employers as per their requests. The placement cell of our college concentrates not only on getting jobs for our students but it also gives equal importance to career counselling and guidance and skill training. The placement officer instils in the students the importance of transient skills, change in skill requirements-a training focusing on reframing the profile of an employee in accordance with the changing profile of a company.

The College provides accommodation for students coming from places outside city limits and an excellent vegetarian mess is run for them. It is equipped with 24X7 CCTV surveillance. It is also supervised by female superintendents and gives safe environment to the students. The students are provided with hygienic and quality food and good drinking water. The hostel students are nurtured with culture by attending prayer daily in the morning and on some special occasions. They also can access the library after the college hours in the evening. Parents are allowed to visit their wards on holidays and only the parents are permitted to take their wards from hostel.

Auditorium
The College starts the day's activities by invoking the blessings of the Almighty in the mass prayer with the melodious bhajan songs sung by the college choir. It is followed by chanting of ‘Gayathri mantra', meditation, reading of a good thought for the day and concluded with the college song. The whole atmosphere of the college auditorium is replete with divine peace and spiritual tranquillity even as the prayer songs are sung in unison. Students are given a booklet of these prayer songs to participate better.

Laboratory
The Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Home Science and Computer Science have spacious laboratories with upto date equipments / instruments necessary to conduct under-graduate and post-graduate practicals. Post-graduate departments of Physics and Chemistry have sophisticated equipments like ultrasonic interferometer, laser unit, polarograph, UV spectro photometer, microwave kit, etc. The departments of Botany and Zoolgy have various kinds of microscopes, digital colerimeter, camera lucida, etc.
