SSM College of Arts and Science was propounded by the altruistic industrialist and seer exemplary, Shri.SSM Subramaniam and founded by the SSM Educational Trust in 2006.

Since the founding of the first college, the SSM Educational Trust has grown rapidly in a short period of time and now it comprises four educational institutions for its credit by its premium quality education. With elevated aims, the Trust offers a holistic education to foster and aid the socio-economic sphere of the nation at large. Granted permission by the Government of Tamilnadu, the College is affiliated to Periyar University , Salem and certified as an ISO 9001:2008 institution.

A pass in Higher Secondary Course or any other equivalent examination recognized by Periyar University


General Information

All admissions are subject to the approval by Periyar University.
Admission is subject to verification of mark certificates by the concerned authorities.
Fee once paid will be not be refunded.
Application Forms are not transferable.
Incomplete applications will be rejected.

Foreign/NRI Students

The candidates can obtain the prospectus and the application form from the college or the authorized representatives and should send the filled in application along with O Level statement of results, A Level certificates and the copy of the passport duly attested by the Indian Embassy / Consulate.


On receiving the application, the college will process it and send the admission offer letter to the eligible candidates.

On receiving the letter of offer, the candidates should enroll themselves by payment of fees, by Demand Draft in favour of ″SSM College of Arts & Science″ payable at Erode.

On receiving the demand draft the College will send the letter of acceptance to the candidates, which can be submitted at the Indian Embassy to get a student visa.

Training & Placement


Training & Placement department helps preparing graduates and passed out students in finding suitable jobs in reputed organizations. This cell works out placement strategies based on current as well as further job markets and takes into account the emerging job profile so that these may provide upward mobility in the career-graphs of our students. Invitations are sent to the prospective companies / organizations along with all relevant information to participate in the campus recruitment.

Regular correspondence is maintained with various industries. Personal visits by the Training and Placement Officer, to many companies also serves to build and maintain relations with the companies. The cell maintains a branch -wise list of industries and encourages students to approach the companies independently in case that particular company does not have a policy of Campus Recruitment.

The cell maintains a branch-wise record of all current appearing students in the Final Year through the collection of their resumes. Based on the requirements prescribed by the company, the eligible candidates are invited for appearing for the test / interviews that are conducted by the visiting companies. The T & P also maintains a list of past students and passes this list to companies who specifically come for pass-out students.

The T & P cell looks after all arrangements to be made for the purpose of conducting campus interviews including everything from, the Pre-Placement Talk, to the written tests, to the final interviews The Training and Placement Cell firmly believes in taking feedback from the companies that have visited since the feedback from the company serves as a yardstick regarding the performance of the students.

This helps the Training and Placement Cell in concentrating on various areas for improvement in the students. We believe that our students are like 'uncut diamonds' that need to be guided in the right direction to acquire their lustre.


Campus Recruitment Process

Requirements of a company are received by Training & Placement Cell (T & PC) for campus recruitment. The circular is sent to department heads and students about the recruitment. The department shortlists the candidates and send the same to the T & PC. The list of students will be forwarded to the recruiting company.


Off Campus Recruitment

The T & PC will shortlist the students from the database matching the company requirements and sends the list to recruiting company or institution for further action.

Scholarship

Scholarship and other financial aids are given to deserving students on the basis of merit in both sports and academic. Apart from this Tamilnadu Government Scholarship are available for SC/ST candidates and minority students.

Sports


SSMCAS has well furnished Sports equipments. Students have access to all Indoor and Outdoor games. The College has a extensive play ground for all out door games. The college plays first position in respect of games like Kho-Kho, and Kabaddi. The Department of Physical Education plays vital role in the development of General Physical Fitness through games and sports. Students are encouraged to participate in all sports and games activity at various levels viz National Level Tournaments, Inter Collegiate Tournaments, District and State Level Tournaments conducted by recognized institutions. Expert Coaches are guide and train the students to face the challenges and competitions at State and National level.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

National Service Scheme of the College has two units. Mr. V T.. GANGATHARAN, Asst. Prof in Textile and Fashion Designing, Programme Officer of NSS. Every year, 250 N.S.S. Volunteers are enrolled in the NSS Units. The NSS units have been carrying out awareness programme on Special camps, Child Health Care, Family Welfare, Health and Hygiene, Pollution problems.


• The NSS students have been rendering creditable service by adopting backward villages, conducting adult literacy classes, eye camps, veterinary camps, blood donation programmes, ‘Cleaning the campus’, anti-plastic campaigns, etc. Cultural activities were organized for the rural people of Namakkal District. Mr. Aravind of B.Sc Computer Science of the college, has received the award from Former Honb’le President Pranab Mukherjee for the best NSS Student for the year 2011-12 for his service and excellent performance.

Consumer Club


The Consumer Club of SSMCAS is an affiliated club to the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Government of Tamil Nadu, which was established in the academic year 2008-2009. The club has evolved its own objectives in aligning to achieve the common goal of the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Government of Tamil Nadu. 150 students are registered and coordinator of this club is Mr. R. Ragupathi, M.Sc., M.Phil., Asst. Prof in Department of Computer Science and he has organized various activities of awareness programme.

SSM Community Radio

90.8 MHz

Profile

SSM Community Radio Station was founded by ‘Cavalier’ Dr. M.S.Mathivaanan under the vision of his father ‘Gnanathandhai’ S.S.M.Subramaniam. SSM Community Radio (90.8 MHz) has initiated its services from 13th February 2012 with the slogan ‘Enainthu Kelungal Enimaiyai Valungal’ covering 15-20 Km radius around the station. The SSMCR started its transmission of programmes for about 4 hours a day, this comprises of 2 hours fresh programming from 6 AM to 8 AM, and a repeat broadcast from 6.30 PM to 8.30 PM. The Station broadcast programs on 12 major subjects namely prayer, spiritual, health, motivation, agriculture, industrial growth, education, library, our region, cooking tips, beauty tips, and stories for children.

SSM Community Radio Station is located in the campus of SSM College of Engineering with the geographical position of transmitting antenna being 077E44429 and 11N2626 at the highest of 30 meters above ground level and operates with the transmitting antenna having 50 Watts R.F. power output and at the frequency of 90.8 MHz in FM band.

Transport


Students commute to the institution by college buses free of cost. The buses ply from the college to various places like Erode, Salem, Tiruchengode, komarapalayam, Bhavani, Mettur, Edappadi, Kumaraiyanur, Anthiyur, Sankari, falling in the revenue districts of Namakkal, Salem, Erode and Tirupur.
