Overview

HISTORY

St. XAVIER’S COLLEGE was founded in 1869 by the Society of Jesus, a Christian Religious Organization started by St. Ignatius of Loyola. Since its very inception, the Society has significantly contributed to the field of education throughout the world, inspired by a vision of the human, drawn from the life, teachings and personality of Jesus Christ. In India, it was St. Francis Xavier, after whom the College is named, who began the educational work of the Society of Jesus. At present, in India, the Society runs 36 Pre- Primary/Primary/Middle Schools, 130 High Schools, 20 Technical Institutes and 33 Colleges. All these institutions form a part of the effort of the Catholic Church to share in the vital task of education.

St. Xavier’s College is a Christian institution, started with the purpose of educating the Christian community in India. It extends its services to members of other communities as an effort at building a truly inter-religious and inter-cultural human community in the country. On January 30, 1869, it was affiliated to the University of Mumbai. It became a Constituent College of the University, as a result of the Mumbai University Act 1953. It is entrusted by the University with the task of preparing students for degrees in Arts, Science, Commerce, Mass Media, Management Studies and Information Technology.
St. Xavier’s College looks upon itself as an academic community where scholars, both students and teachers, have the freedom and responsibility to communicate, evaluate and enlarge humankind’s store of knowledge. The College stands for academic excellence and endeavours to create an environment,which generates a love of learning, a habit of critical thinking and the ability for accurate expression. Courses

Admission Process

The application process of St. Xavier’s College

Students can apply and make the payment online for all the courses, except for the B.Com course. The application process for B.Com is done through offline mode, i.e., by filling up and submitting a form, and through an interview with the Vice Principal of the Commerce section.

Online Process

The application process comprises of 2 stages:

The candidates must first fill in the Google form.
Followed by the application available on the university’s official website.
The candidates must enter all the necessary details.
Pay the fees.
Submit the form.
Offline Process
The application form, available at the College Office, duly filled in should be submitted with an attested copy of the B.A./B.Sc. Degree marksheet and a passport size photograph along with the prescribed fees of INR.320 & INR.500 (for verification of documents) to the College Office.

B.A/B.Sc/B.Com: The admissions are merit-based and subject to availability of seats.
BMM/BMS: Students from all three disciplines of Arts, Commerce, and Science can apply. They have to go through an entrance test conducted by the college to get selected.

Placements

St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai Placements
St. Xavier's College is conducting its placement drive for the batch 2022 and a Students of BMS has received the Job offer of INR 30 LPA. Companies across sectors like Banking, Consultancy, Marketing and Finance made Job offers. There was an INR 2 - 4 Lakhs increase in the remuneration this year.

In the year 2020-21 there was a 30% increase in the highest and Average CTC offered as compared to 2020. Students had received the package between INR 15 LPA - INR 22 LPA. More than 650 Students were placed this year.

For the year 2020, over 900 students enrolled from different courses participated in the placement drive and the highest CTC stood at INR 21 LPA which was offered by D.E. Shaw whereas the average CTC stood at INR 6 LPA.
St Xaviers College, Mumbai has a training and placement cell to organise the placement procedure for the students. Training sessions on personality development and communication skills are also conducted for students to help them prepare better for the overall recruitment process. The institute also makes sure that they can help most of the students getting placed into various companies by helping them in every possible way. St Xaviers College, Mumbai also conducts mock tests and practice session classes on Aptitude, Quantitative Ability, Logical and Reasoning to make students practice and get better before appearing for the final Interview and Written test. Detailed description on the whole procedure of placement followed by the Training & Placement cell of the Institute are mentioned below in steps.

The Training & Placement cell of St Xaviers College, Mumbai coordinates with the recruitment companies and sends an annexure to those companies and the recruiters in return need to fill all necessary information in the annexure.

The Training and Placement Cell then fixes their dates with various recruiters based on the salary packages and other eligibility criteria offered by the recruitment companies.

Students need to register themselves with the T&P cell for the placement drive along with all required documents and students satisfying all eligibility criteria will be asked to proceed further for the recruitment process.

Recruiters will then fix dates with St Xaviers College, Mumbai to visit the campus for conducting the recruitment process via various steps including Written Test, Group discussion and Interview.

Students need to appear and qualify a written test classified into different sections including Quantitative aptitude, Logical and Reasoning ability, English competency etc to test the skills and basic knowledge of students.

Students of St Xaviers College, Mumbai who will qualify the written test also need to qualify Group Discussion on topics decided by the recruiters to judge the communication and speaking skills of students. After clearing the GD round, students also need to go through various rounds of Interview namely Technical Interview and HR Interview conducted by various recruiting companies to test the technical knowledge, communication skills and confidence of students.

Scholarship

St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai Scholarships
St.Xavier College Mumbai offers financial aid facilities and provides scholarships to deserving and needy candidates. The following are the details of some of the scholarships that students can choose:

Post Graduate Scholarship For Single Girl Child: This scholarship is provided to a single girl child and she is pursuing a postgraduate course will get INR 36,200 for a period of two years only.
Open Merit Scholarship for Junior Colleges: Placements are provided to candidates who have scored more than 60% in SSC.
Raja Shri Sahu Maharaj Scholarship: This scholarship is provided to students who have a family income of less than INR 8 Lakhs and are not getting any other scholarship from the only source. This scholarship covers 50% of tuition and examination fees.
Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students: This scheme is provided to candidates belonging to minority candidates such as Sikhs, Jain, Muslims, Christian, and are pursuing studies at a higher level.
GOI Post Matric Scholarship: Thi scholarship is provided to candidates belonging to ST/SC/OBC/SBC category and they should be a citizen of Maharashtra.

St Xaviers College, Mumbai offers library facility to the students and faculty members of the institute which is described in detail below.

Library: Library of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai has a vast collection of volumes, which includes textbooks and reference books. It has computerized all its housekeeping activities using Library software. This enables users in searching and availing the library resources. It is a host of high-quality electronic databases and provides access to e-resources which can be remotely accessed through the N-LIST Programme of INFLIBNET.

Library

The College Library provides print & electronic resources for all academic and related activities of the students and staff, services for the retrieval and use of these resources and adequate infrastructure and spaces for their use. An online database of the books and journals is maintained and access to these is provided through five OPAC (On-line Public Access) terminals in the library and a link on the College website. The library has initiated an Institutional Repository by digitalizing rare books and college publications. The library is open from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. on all working days only.

Sports

The College has facilities for Body-building, Badminton, Table-Tennis, Carrom and Chess. The College has full-size Basketball and Volleyball Courts. The College has leased from the BMC the use of a cricket pitch on Azad Maidan. Dr Thomas Pires is the Director and he is assisted by other Coaches for different sports, as and when the need arises.

I.T Infrastructure

The college has excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.

Cafeteria

Canteen and Foyer is a large spacious area with a view of greenery. A variety of refreshments and meals are available here.

Wifi

The college has a Wi-Fi facility for the students and staff.

Boys Hostel

The campus hostel is only for male students of the First and Third Years Senior College. Apart of the College Canteen serves as the Hostel Mess and it serves subsidized meals and refreshments to hostelites and guests. Some of the rooms in the hostel are for two occupants and some for three occupants. Applications Dr only after admission to the College has been secured. The College Principal is the overall in-charge of the Hostel.

Medical/Hospital

Basic ‘First-Aid’ is available with the College General Office (CGO) (Ms Grizel Menezes) and the Counselling Centre (Fr. Terence Quadros, S.J.). The CGO personnel will facilitate the calling of a doctor in case of an emergency or the shifting of the concerned person to either G.T. Hospital or Bombay Hospital. A stretcher or a wheelchair is available with the Security at the gate. The College also has an Infirmary for catering to the needs of those staff/student who suddenly fall sick on Campus.

Auditorium

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminar.

The college has a good networking for the alumni association.

The college has departmental based laboratories facility for the students.
